Default How loud are the rear speakers supposed to be?

Hey guys,

I bought my car about a month ago from a fellow member off this forum and they had a system in it already:

some Kenwood Double Din Deck
Alpine Amp
JL 10" Sub
Stock Speakers

as far as I can tell all the stock speakers and the sub are connected to the amplifier.

I removed my sub today because I decided I need more trunkspace over bass and now I noticed little to no sound coming from the rear 2 speakers... I faded the speakers to the rear 2 and it's stilll relatively faint compared to the front speakers.

Is this normal? or is something wrong with the wiring?

Thanks in advance guys!

are you sure he didn't use left/right rather than front/rear by mistake?

Are you talking about the wiring to the amplifier or if I'm using the Balance instead of Fader?

If you actually still have the stock "full-range" speakers installed front and rear, what you're seeing is pretty normal in my experience. The stock rear speakers are something like, 32 ohm impedance, if I recall correctly.

A "normal" aftermarket amp is generally rated to deliver it's power to a nominal 4 ohm load. Everytime you double that load, you'll see a 50% reduction (generally) in output power. So, if your amp did, for example...

100 watts/channel @ 4 ohms

Extrapolate that out based on what I just told you and you'll see it's putting out, again only for example:

50 watts/channel @ 8 ohms
25 watts/channel @ 16 ohms
12.5 watts/channel @ 32 ohms

Clearer now why, using the stock rear speakers, you don't have much volume to speak of from the rear channels?
