Default wiring to cig lighter

Would there be a problem with taping/splicing into and hard wiring a radar detector and also wiring up two 52mm gauges to one cig (passenger side) lighter outlet?

I would like to use the positive cig outlet wire to run all 3 things. I will probably ground the two gauges elsehwere.

I just wired two 52mm gauges to the pass side cig lighter with no problems. There is a hot wire and a ground wire already hooked up to the cig lighter. I cut the connector off and added new male and female quick disconnects. I don't use the cig lighter anyways.

I Spliced the cig lighter and added a 3 way unit to add more componets...
Radar-
Phone charger-

and still have an extra... Its all hidden away in the Glove box... I didnt like the Phone Charger cord sticking out in the middle the way it did, in between the seats...

You need to know the current draw of the devices you are connecting as the wire gause may not be safe enough to past the required current of the device. Also, after determining this, fuse each device individually with an inline fuse.

Hope this helps....

Yea fuse for each would be wise. I figure worst case scenario would be the cig lighter gauge would blow.

What I want to do is use a toggle switch for turning on the gauge lights. I want to hard wire the detector to both cig wires (using the ground and hot) Then I want to run one hot wire of the cig lighter and use that wire for the 2 gauges, which will be ground near the fuse block by the dead pedal.

I want to use a toggle switch for turning off and on the gauge lights only, and mount it kinda under the dash.

Can a basic one throw toggle switch be used with a hot wire hooked to it or are they only meant to create or cancel a ground?
