People who have NAV.....
I am purchasing a 350z touring model this month. I am on the fence on getting the nav or not. Do you feel you actually use it enough to justify the cost.....or was it more just to have a "toy" in the car?? Any thoughts you all have will be appreciated...thanks
I personally ordered the NAV in my Touring b/c I am bad w/directions and love to take road trips...It just gives me a peace of mind that's all. But it's really up to you, if there is something else that you feel is more worthwhile of your 2G's then go for that. Hope this helps...and enjoy the new car
do I use it enough to justify the 2K price tag - no. Do I use it, yes.
<assumption>
you are probably going to be financing this car
</assumption>
If the above assumption is correct, remember that adding in the 2K to the total amount financed will have little impact on your montly payment. It won't hurt as much as 2K coming straight out of your pocket.
If you are going to be purchasing this vehicle without financing, I would suggest you save your 2K. You can get a much better system for the money.
<edit>
one other thing - if you go through cars as much as I do, it would help the resale if you did have factory NAV. Anything aftermarket makes it much harder to sell.

I hardly ever use it around town, except to look up a restaurant phone # or something, but for real travel it's great. It came in handy when I was 1k mi. from home last December and needed to find a dealer for my first oil change, too. Come to think of it, I used it last week to find a local hospital.
I ordered the NAV for the wow and coolness factor. As it turns out, it acutually a very slick tool. Looks nice at night too! The voice guidance system is very helpful, especially in down town areas. Nice to see what streets are coming up. I recommend it over any aftermarket version.
I use it all the time... I visit a lot of different sites during my work day, and it's nice to not have to print out mapquest.com maps anymore.
NAV systems are permanently on my list of "must haves." My wife is so impressed with it, that she's ordered it in her new mini-van -- she was jealous of my NAV kewlness...

You know how guys are about asking directions? Well...no more of that crap. I now don't hesitate when someone says..."meet me *wherever*" or have to go someplace I've not been before, I just enter the location and go.
I would vote yes!

Yeah, in a lot of ways it's an expensive toy and fun to play with.
But now that I have it I use it a lot more than I thought I would.
It's not a necessity, but it is a very useful tool.

I always wanted a NAV system, but I didn't have the money when I bought the car. I've got a good aftermarket Pioneer system now. It works great, but there really wasn't much cost savings (maybe 300 bucks) and the integration is not as good as with a stock system.
I would say, definitely go for it.
To me, Nav is like a cell phone. I lived my whole life without a cell phone until a few years ago. I never thought I'd need it for anything. Now that I've had one for a while, I can't imagine being without it. Nav is definitely more than just a gadget, it changes the way I drive.

At first, i was hesistant about buying the nav, but i eventually decided to get it because it just looked too cool. After having my Z for a few months, I am glad that i got it. I use it all the time to find restaurants and things of the sort. 2k is expensive for a nav system but i dont think you'll be dissapointed with it. I just wish could fugure out how to hook it to a dvd player already!!!!!
I'm always getting lost and can't find my way around town, so I thought I would use the Nav a lot. The one I demoed at the Nissan dealership had a touch screen. (This was before any details of the Nav system in the Z were out.)
Obviously, the Nav system in the Z doesn't have a touch screen. I find it much harder to use. It takes forever to enter an address wih the silly joystick. I rarely bother to use it to get anywhere. Occasionally it comes in handy when driving curves on roads I haven't memorized yet.
I also thought that having the Nav up with a map would help me learn my way around town more. That didn't work out either. The resolution on the Nav screen isn't high enough to put a street name label on every road, and the road names that are there are sometimes hard to read.
If I were to do it again I wouldn't by the Nav system. I suppose if you're constantly needing to go to new/unfamiliar places then it might be worthwhile, but still the lack of a touch screen makes it hard to use.

Daynar, here's a useful tip:
Our nav systems store the last-used destinations, and you can call up previous destinations (the first six I believe) while driving.
So, program in the place you want to go before you leave, set it as a destination, then cancel it once it starts giving directions. Then, when you're out driving around, push "dest", select "previous destination", then select the one you just entered. Super-quick and easy.

Would I recommend the Nav?
Yes, if you are not a Do-It-Yourselfer
No, If you are (for the same price you can get a much nicer system)
Would I recommend the Bose?
HELL NO!
I was sitting in my friend's Jeep Grand Cherokee and his STOCK sound system is light years better than my Bose.
My personal opinion is that Nissan and Bose scammed all those that bought the Bose sound system. What a piece of crap!
For those that disagree, go do an honest comparison with someone's car that has a NICE stereo in it.
You will be able to tell a night and day difference.

I got it as a toy, and haven't used it a whole lot. I think it's a neat gadget to have, and on that occasion when I REALLY need it, it will be a lifesaver.
That said, it is a little difficult to use, and I hate the fact that you must be stopped to program it. Plus, it has taken me to the wrong destination on more than one occasion. The address is correct on the system, but the guidance takes me somewhere else. Strange.
Even so, I like having it in the car.

I was also wondering about this but I saw that Pioneer offers a 6.5" Touch Screen LCD that will probably fit in the place where the factory Navigation goes. It comes with a navigation with audio prompts and an extra A/V input for a dvd player. The model is NAV-SYS610T ($1,334). Look at this and see if you like it. If you want to replace the stock radio there is a motorize in-dash touchscreen available.
