Default iPod cable port location

Where do people normally place their iPod cable port in aftermarket installs? I'm thinking of placing the hole in the lined part of the frontmost cupholder area. If you remove the cupholder spacer it makes a nice compartment for an iPod, with a closing hatch. I dislike having cups in there anyways since they can get in the way of me shifting. Any thoughts?

The cup holder gets in the way you shifting? What year are you talking about?

Some enjoy having the Ipod in the center console as you stated,,,I am not sure if you have factory Nav or installed a screen in the upper cubby, but that is where my Ipod cable is routed.

2008 GT. It's only if someone has a giant cup in there. My arm can bump against it, which annoys the hell out of me.

I have the factory nav.

I'm actually thinking of using the cupholder that's farther forward. The one with the sliding cover, not the hatch style one. I wanted to save the other space space for the Tein EDC. With all the doors closed on everything I'd like my interior to look as stock as possible. It's just a personal preference. Thanks for the pic though!

I actually might relocate mine to the center cup holder compartment.

This is where it currently sits:

Mine goes into the nav cubby. But if you do not plan on taking the pod out of your car very often, there is plenty of room to just mount it inside of the dash, in the space between the cubby and head unit:

Cleanest place I could find to put it, and I can fit any ipod in there.

Apparently the 08 (and probably 07) is different. Right where yours is there is another set of two cupholders with a sliding cover. I think I'm going to bastardize that spot.

The 06's have the new center console as well. Two drink holders with a seperator,,,with sliding cover.

Post up some pics of your center rest. Maybe I can help come up with some ideas.

Not sure if the above post was for me,,,but I just ran my ipod connect into the upper cubby. I do not have factory Nav/screen. For Nav, I have the Alpine Blackbird dock running to my W-200. Which allows my upper cubby for my ipod/iphone, wallet ect. ect. I do appreciate the offer. I was commenting on the center console for 06's being different than 03-05.

I have a 2008 GT and use the frontmost cupholder area - I'm using the Axxess iPod integration kit which allows me to use the radio buttons or ipod to control the music (some steering wheel functionality currently works, too). A couple of the pics show the iPod in both scenarios.

During the install, I manage to scratch up the "dead" button next to the heated seat buttons - so I recommend putting a towel down for the AC control panel to rest on. I'm gonna try and buff out those scratches this weekend.

Since the Axxess allows TWO inputs, you'll also notice that I not only ran the iPod cable to the cupholder area, but another 3.5mm headphone plug that I can plug my old mp3 player, too. The iPod tucks nicely away into the cupholder area and the music pauses when the key is turned off. So when you come back to your car and start it up, the song picks up where it left off.

Here are some pics:
