Default Diamond Audio Subs?

Has anyone heard of Diamond Audio subs? I was going to purchase some JL's from my local shop, but they said that their only comparable sub would be a Diamond Audio sub. And as a matter of fact, he said they sound the same, if not better.. and are alot cheaper.

Anyone have any experience with these subs? A part of me is thinking that he is simply feeding me this crap because he doesn't want me to buy elsewhere. Then again, I don't know.. because I've known him a while, and he wouldn't do me wrong (or so I think)

Any suggestions?

Heard of them, used them, love them.

The D3 is better than the JL w3, D6 is better than the w6 fro SQ, D9 is better than the w7 for spl

Bottom line is, despite marketing tactics, JL is NOT the end-all be-all subwoofer. There are a lot of companies that make a better sub for less money.

Is the D9 still made? I went to their website, and it's not even listed.

Thanks for the advice thus far guys. Much appreciated.

The D9's are now called HexPro. They are the same motor and basket, but with the hex cone (like their hex components) inspired by Eton (who Diamond used to source their component woofers from). You can still find the regular D9's on websites like woofersetc.com.

whats a good amp to drive a D9 or a hexpro? Seperate amp for each speaker? or one amp to drive both?

I was going to get 2 amps, to drive each sub, and I was going to do so with 2 JL 500/1's to both, but now I unsure if using a 500/1 would be too low for each speaker after reading the specs of the Diamond Subs.

This combo would kick some ***:

Two subs wired to 1ohm -
D9 10" dual 4ohm, 600 watts rms.
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2695

Amplifer -
Crossfire VR1000D, 1000 rms into 1ohm (under rated)

IMHO, Crossfire makes one of the best monoblocks. That VR series is a super solid amp. Their XP series is a hair cheaper and are strappable if you need real serious power:
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5814

All of their amps are rated at 13.8 volts, so you can expect approx 15% more from 14.4 volts. And your amp will come with a birth sheet of actual output.

Only 1 is needed. It will give EACH sub about 600 rms with your car running.
