Default Scosche vs. Metra

I have both kits for the 2006 z and neither of them seem to fit perfectly. I am having bulges towards the bottom corners. Am I missing something here? I've had two shops look at it? I remember searching a thread on the Pioneer D3 and it involved doing something special to the actual Head Unit to get it to fit properly? Can someone give me some info on this as I find it hard to believe it's supposed to not fit properly. Perhaps some pics of Pioneer unit with just the faceplates would be appreciated.

i installed a d3 not too long ago with a 06 metra kit with no problem. i would make sure none of the tabs are bent and the trim isn't "miss shaped" or anything like that. sometimes you can get a slightly bent trim kit. it happens

I just installed a kenwood 2-din unit using the metra kit for my 2006 Z and I thought it fit together nicely. There was a big gap between the top of the trim kit and console opening, when I had the console removed and was fitting up the head unit, but when it all squeezed into place when I put the console back in it all lined up great. See picture below (sorry it's blurry).

I have heard that the AI kit fits better, but I'm not sure why.

I finally figured it out....The holes on the stock brackets didn't line up exactly with the holes on the new head unit. I took the brackets off and drilled the holes extra wide and used the grinder to smooth out the metal. With some large washers I was able to gently place the HU in place to where I wanted it so that it wouldn't pop out the trim bezel and tighten everything down. The fit and alignment is nearly perfect now and really makes a difference!

yeah with pioneers neither kits fit right if you use it hte way they instruct you, what i basically do is trim the tabs off, and hotglue the bracket to the dash piece itself, ensuring a good fit, and then drill new holes in the metal bracket behind there and lin eup the unit to the opening.

I had to redrill the brackets to get my kenwood to sit flush.
