Default Budget Audio Set Up Question

Hey everyone...i searched for awhile but did not really find what i was looking for....

I have no experience or knowledge in the audio area of cars so have a few questions.

I listen to rap...hip/hop..techno/trance...rock..lots of different kinds of music, but only have the base model sound system in my Z and am interested in getting a better one.

What parts will i need to make this happen ( particular brands would be really helpful ) and since i'm on a budget what is the cheapest i could get a decent-good one for? ( Would be willing to spend up to around 1000 for everything -- including installation )

Thanks.
-Tragen

The best way to upgrade the sound for the type of music you listen to and stay within your budget would be to get a new deck, then get a sub setup, whether it's 2 10's, one 10, one 12, it really doesn't matter. Lastly you will need an amp to run the sub and all the required parts to install everything. You should be able to get decent gear for $1000.00, but depending on where you have it installed you may end up running a little over with the labor. Down the road you can upgrade the speakers and get a second amp for them, but the best way to make the current setup sound better is to get a deck and sub.

Deck $175.00
Subs $200.00 (two 10")
Amp $250.00
Parts $125.00
Box $125.00
Labor $200.00

Total $1075.00

This is the direction I would go with that budget, but remember, the more you spend on the AMP, the louder and better sounding the bass will be.

Not necessarily true.

OP,
It would be impossible for us to tell you what brands and components to look for . I feel like a broken record, but 'what I think sounds great you might think sounds like poo'. There are too many brands to list, and not all of the lines within the brand are great.

Do you like:
Thick bass or thin bass?
Punchy or smooth mids?
Soft or harsh highs?
Are you after SQ or SPL?
Do you need to hear the system a mile away?
Are you mounting the components in door pods, kick panels, or stock locations?
Do you need to have rear fill?
