Default sub info

Ive tried to learn about subs and enclosures, but i just dont understand this stuff.

I noticed alot of poeple are getting JL subs so apparently they are good. But what is the difference between the 10W6v2 and the 10W6... I dont know what the differce. Which is better (obviously the more expensive one?)

Also, i really like the Nazar sub enclosure so i was wondering if two 10W6v2 JL subs will fit in his awesome sub enclosure.

Thanks for the help

Different construction and material. The newer models also handle more power. Don't get it if you're not going to drive it that hard. You won't be happy with the sound. The others can be listed for more because they are dual voice coil @ 2 ohm...ideally what you want depending on your configuration and amps. One/Two subs? Sealed/Ported Box?? Band-pass???

I'd suggest the 10W0 or 10W3 for most daily-driver apps.

You could just buy the box Nazar made me. It includes a 10w7, JL Audio 500/1 amp, and a 1 Farad Cap. All for $1000. Do the math, its a steal. I am building my car for auto-x so I have to sell it. Or if you want a 2 sub setup contact Nazar, his work is top notch.

Im thinking of going with 2 10w3v2 in a custom box under the strut bar, im looking at the Nazar box, but i kind want the subs angled slightly up towards the glass top firing strait back to the back... Or does his box already sound awesome.

Im also confused of the amp i should get. Do i get 1 amp to power 2 subs or an amp for each sub...

What do you recommend, stick with JL or go with another company. Any suggestions?

thanks

A single 10W7 is actually going to give you better sound quality, and a higher SPL than two 10w3's from what I have been told.

Both the 10w3v2 and 10w6ae are recommended for 300 watts continuous. The problem is, the 10w6ae is only a dual 6 ohm sub. The 6 ohm voice coils can be either 12 or 3 ohms, and two of them together will be either 1.5 or 6 ohms. Most amps can not handle 1.5 ohms, and at 6 ohms they will lose power; however if you get 3 10w6aes and wire them in a series-parallel, i believe you can obtain a 4 ohm load--optimal for bridged amps.

The 10w3v2 can be gotten in dual 2/4/6 ohm. Depending what amplifier you are going to use, either the 2 or 4 ohm ones would be best.

If you are going to use a bridge amp: get the dual 4 ohm subs. In a series-parallel configuration, it will remain 4 ohms, which is perfect for bridged amps.

If you are going to get a monoblock (sub only) amp: get dual 2 ohm subs. In series-parallel, it will remain 2 ohms. This will allow you to get a bit more power out of the amplifier, and maybe save some money. The reason for this: a bridged amplifier can only safely power half of its normal impedance while bridged. Example: an amp that is 2 ohm stable in stereo can only do 4 ohms when it is bridged. A monoblock amplifier can do 2 ohms (since it's not bridged).

The other option, spend a bit more on one really nice 10, like a 10w7 or 10w6v2, etc. and save yourself some interior space and headaches in figuring out which is the best wiring to go with.

Series-parallel wiring:

Hey,

From what you have posted, you seem to be an admitted newbie to the Car Audio scene...no problem at all. With the amplifier for 2 10W3s and the custom enclosure and drivers, you are going to be looking at a cost at or nearing $1000. I would really suggest MonkeyMan's ready to go offer for you. All you have to do is run the wires...no guessing and no hassles.

If not, may I suggest a few other brands: Try
Elemental Designs
Adire Audio
Stryke Audio

All of these can rival the best from JL given the proper installation and setup.

Either way good luck with your system

im considering your deal, it is a very good offer at the prices i have been able to find. Let me think and ill get back to. Shipping is also going to be alot to california so that something i need to take into consideration.

1 - JL 10w7 = $499
1 - JL 500/1 = $419
1 - Nazar sub enclosure = i donno, but i know it puts it over 1000...

yeah so but i am a newbie to this stuff...what exactly is a 1 farad cap. I understand that the 10w7 is really good, but i kinda am going for good sound and the sweet look of 2 10"s....

Here is what i think im gonna go with....

2 - 10w3v2 @ $189.00 = $378
1 - JL 500/1 mono amp = $419
1 - Nazar sub enclosure = /???? anyone know how much that is....

Will this set up work, do i need different things or will this work the way it is right there.???

Thanks for the help!!

The Nazar enclosure is $600. The cap cost $175.00 and it basically stores energy for when your sub hits. That way there is a constant source of power, and no load on your battery. IN other words, your lights won't dim while your sub is hitting.
