Default Amp rack in Bose Sub. location

My amp is currently in the glove box behind the passenger seat, and I think it is overheating in there, especially these past few days with the near 100 degree temps. Basically, I need to move it somewhere with more space and airflow. My first choice is the vacuous space behind the driver seat; there is more area in there for it to breath in comparison to the glove box. Problem is, I have no clue how to make a rack for it.

Performing a search brings up many examples of people's builds, but no instructions on how to build one. Also, the one guy who was selling pre-fab'd units no longer sells. So can anyone point me in the right direction here on how to build a rack for the Bose sub location, or maybe put me in touch with someone who is selling?

Just a note: I have an understrut sub box; thought about securing the amp to that but for various reasons decided against it. Aside from under the passenger seat, the Bose sub location is really my only choice.

Thanks fellas!

Making an amp rack isn't too hard nor too expensive. You can get a 1/4 sheet of 3/4" mdf from Home Depot. Then you will need a couple corner braces and a couple metal straps, both of which can be found in the hardware section of Home Depot. Lastly you will need some 1/2" wood screws.

Tools, you will want a tape measure, screw driver or screw gun, jig saw, and maybe some cardboard to make a template of the inside.

Once you have the mdf cut to shape, use the corner braces (you will need to bend them) to mount to existing holes in the front where the bose sub plate mounted. Use the strapping to "hang" the back of the rack from the brackets at the top rear of the sub space. Then you can cover in carpet or paint, or leave raw.

There was a guy on here a while ago who made a few and sold them pretty cheap and he had some pics so you could see what I am talking about, but I can't find that post right now.

I had a how-to thread but that was back in 2005. I still have the pictures if that helps. Mine was a bit unique in that I stacked two amplifiers one on top of the other. The three straps in the front hit the 10 mm bolts that would have held the subwoofer's mount. In the back you see a slice out of the square for the driver's side rear wheel well and those straps line up with the waiting mounting bracket for a driver's side luggage cubby (for the Japanese right-hand drive market I assume).

+1 It's gotta be a lot better than in the closed off glove box. I was actually thinking of pulling some old PC fans and mounting them in there w/ the amp, but seeing as there is no new air being moved in, they'd just be pushing hot air around.

Thanks for the pics, though I can't see them at work at the moment Hopefully I can glean enough from the shots to make my own, or at least get me started You have a link to that How-To, Paul?

kmanz, if you placed the pc fans in front of the speaker grill facing the amps it should draw in the air from outside. I don't know how you'd mount that but it should work.

Good call, I see what you are saying. I wonder how loud the fans would be.

Paul350Z: nice pics! You know you could make some good dough if you fabbed these up for people on here

Re-upping this thread, since I have decided to go active and need to place another amp in the car. cdoxp800, I will be using those pictures to fab up a rack. How did you go about creating it? Anything you recommend doing?

Or, has anyone else decided to jump on the idea of mass producing these for us, and would like to sell me one?

agreed... seriously just look at the one I made with a jigsaw and woodglue on the porch of my apartment.. if you are unable to do something similar, then you probably shouldn't be attempting to install a stereo by yourself...
(this is not meant to seem insulting, its meant to emphasize how easy it is to make a similar one).
