Default Alpine Amp CUR error

Ok, I have had this issue for a while now, and actually made a post about it before (Alpine MRV-F345 amp cutting out at high volumes), but since I was always driving when it happened, I couldn't look to see what the error was. Today though, it happened when I was parked, so I got to see the error, and it flashed "CUR" on the output LCD.

Searching the net, I found that it means that the amp is drawing too much current. There are a couple of thing which could cause it, two of which are a bad ground (seems this is always the issue), or my gains are set too high. I am going to look over everything tonight after work and see, but I am pretty certain I have a good ground; the gains may be another story, as I recently tuned my system with the Imprint kit, which left the sound level lacking, so I turned the gains up to compensate. The problem is, the amp did this before I tuned with the kit, so I am thinking that may not be the issue.

To help me solve this problem, I just want to run my system specs by you guys and see if everything is good to go. If it is, the problem may be in the wiring itself (maybe pinched or something affecting ground). I used the stock front speaker wires for my Infinity comps. so I wouldn't have to run new wire through the doors, but the rest of the wiring is legit (can't remember company name now, but the gauge is more than sufficient for power and ground wires)

Here is what I am running:

Alpine MRV-F345: 75 Watts RMSx4 @ 4 ohms, w/ channels 3+4 bridged for 300 watts RMS x1 running my subwoofer

Diamond Audio D610D2 10": Dual 2 ohm voice coil wired in parallel to 4 ohms, 500 watts RMS, peak 1000.

Infinity Perfect 6.1: 4 Ohm impedance, 25-100 watts RMS, peak power= 400 watts

Is there anything wrong with the set up here? If not, I need to look elsewhere. Hopefully someone has seen the "CUR" error and can tell me right off what the deal is haha

Thanks in advance!

Well, I got my volt meter and checked all the grounds. The amp was grounded properly, as was the head unit... I actually used this as a chance to relocate my HU ground to under the shifter plate. Anyways, I also made sure I had the proper fuse in line on the power from battery. 120 Amp was more than sufficient, so that wasn't the problem either.

I called Alpine to see if my equipment was all compatible, and that too was good to go. The last thing that could be causing the issue is bad speakers/ connections. I am tired of this install BS... everything is hooked up right w/ quality gear, I've torn my dash apart like 8000 times...

what gauge power and ground wire are you using, should be 4ga. If you're running 8ga you could have a voltage drop when running at high current causing your problem. For your ground, did you expose bare metal when connecting to the body? paint would cause resistance and even though you checked the continuity of the ground would be limiting the current flow.

I am more than certain that my ground is good for both the amp and the HU. I scraped pretty deeply with a flat-head, and also with a knife blade. After that, the voltmeter confirmed equal voltage at the battery and at the grounding points. The rep I spoke to at Alpine was almost certain it was a bad ground causing this, but even after I re-scraped the ground, the issue has persisted.

As for the power and ground wires, I am certain they are 4-Gauge. I can't remember the exact name of the company I got the kit from, but it came recommended on here (Koncepts-something or other), and I am sure the power and ground are 4 gauge.

My next step is to troubleshoot my wiring, as doug suggests in this post: https://my350z.com/forum/showpost.ph...65&postcount=5
