Default parking brake wire HELP asap thanks.

I am NOT doing the by-pass.

I have an 08. I am installing the avh-p4000dvd head unit and it has a long *** parking brake wire i have to hook up (supposedly). I looked through my manual and searched on here and I cant find where the wire is that i'm supposed to hook it up to. Do I even have to hook it up? I really don't know what i'm doing, but so far, so good.

Please let me know asap as i am in the middle of doing this.
THANKS a lot in advance.

iirc, if you're doing the "bypass," then i you need it just needs to be grounded. there might be a little bit more to doing the bypass. i know with my avic-z3, i had to switch a pin in one of the connectors. i know you don't have an avic unit but you might still be able to find out some info at avic411.com.

ground it..

Or i think it is -purple..

If the radio has video or gps, google "bypass radio name here" and it will tell you how to use the gps(somethings are locked while driving), and video while driving..

Pull the center console out and there will be one wire that goes to a pin at the base of the e-brake handle. That is the wire that you need to connect it to. I'm sure there is another place you can find it but the console comes out so easily that I would just hook it up there.

Wow finally someone actually answered the guy's question. Although I decided to go the easy route and ground the parking brake wire from my Kenwood unit, I was also curious as to where I should connect the wire if I chose to do the installation by the book.

Seems to me that if you connected the parking brake wire to nothing then the video playback would never work, no?

actually, it's not "finally someone answered his question." before he edited his original post to say he wasn't doing the bypass, he was asking if he even had to hook the wire up.

when the parking brake is up, the signal wire will read a ground. when the parking brake is down, the same signal line should read open. if you don't hook the line up to the parking brake, that's just what it will be. open. if you don't hook the wire up at all, the head unit will never see any kind of indication that the parking brake is up, so whichever features that particular head unit requires it to be up to use, will not work.

every headunit i've ever dealt with, gives you a pretty long wire for the parking brake. the easiest way to locate it would be to pull up the center console and just connect it to the pin on the base of the parking brake as someone stated earlier.

Default simple

i have a clarion multimedia unit..and i had just drilled a small hole in the side of the plastic right around where ur right knee would sort of be but more closer to the seat..and i threw in a very small toggle switch..(acts exactly like the parking brake setup) the parking brake is pulled up in the original setup and that makes the connection for the video to be allowed to play..in the toggle switch setup i have..its exxxxactly the same. You flip the switch everytime you would like to view video and it send the same response to the unit as if you where pulling up the parking brake..works perfectly.

I have the Kenwood DNX7120, and all I had to do was ground the parking brake wire to the chassis.

The pioneer systems seem to work differently than others, the wire needs to be connected to a pulse toggle so you dont have to reground it when you restart the car. My friend has a Kenwood and it just grounded it and it works everytime. I have to touch the wire to a chassis ground everytime i turn my car back on the watch a movie.
