Default Audio Setup

I replaced my stock non-bose head unit with the pioneer avh-p4000dvd. The sound is much better but still not to my liking. The volume level required to overcome the road noise when the windows are down is just an absolute distorted mess.

Any suggestions for make/model amp/speakers I should get?

An amp that would fit hidden someplace would be ideal...

Sundown Audio makes some good and fairly cheap amps. I personally have some Zapco DC Reference amps hidden in the factory sub location behind the driver seat. What kind of budget are you working with? I think a pair of 6.5" components in the door (no rear speakers needed) along with a 10" sub should be perfect for you.

I'd probably like to keep the budget under $1000.

The Sundown Audio SAX-100.2 is $229 to power the mids/highs, and the SAE-1000D is $309 to power your sub. A set of JL Audio VR650-CSi 6.5" VR components can be found for around $200, check E-Bay. An Fi Car Audio Q10 can be had for $249. Then get a ZEnclosures box for one 10" for $99. That comes out to about $1100 but it would be a very nice sound system especially for the money. I also suggest you put some sound deadening in your door as well as the hatch area to ge the best sound possible. I just did all the work for you, how easy was that.
