Default Weird noise.

So, I got my stereo system installed about a year ago, and I've noticed, sometimes when my deck [head unit] is on, which means the amp is on, I can hear the engine 'electrically' through my speakers, and same goes with my air conditioning unit, through the speakers. Another thing, is that is always a high pitched sound coming in the background, when music is not playing. This problem used to be much worse, and then they [the installers] plugged in a 'filter' and it's made it 100 times better.

Any ideas?

Bad ground. You said "which means the amp is on", so you have amps installed? I'd check the ground on the amps.

Okay, I'll check that out again, although I did take it back, and they said the ground was just fine, don't know if they tried to move it to a different location or what.

there are many reasons that can cause alternator whine...

1. bad ground
2. rcas run close proximity with power wire
3. broken or bad quality amps/HU
4. cut or broken rca cable
5. poor installation and tuning

i havent had alternator whine in an install in a Z...ever...and thats quite a few dozen Zs hehe but the shop, who did the install, SHOULD be the ones response for diagnosing the issues with you.

what kind of gear is in your car?

I'm sorry, I'm not quite familiar with a whole bunch of terms, what do you mean by what 'gear'?

If you're talking about like the 4.083, or 3.9 'gears' then I'm stock. I don't know what else you mean, heh.

I think "gear" means "equipment".

What brands of equipment? Model numbers? That kind of thing.

well, relatively entry level equipment, but still no excuse for noise if things are done properly.

i would focus on the grounding issue and also if hte rcas were run close to the power wires...

where in california are you?
