Here's a couple of pics of the camera mount I built. I've been meaning to post this for a while but it kept slipping my mind. This is a derivation of one made by Lowfuel. Props to Lowfuel for this design as his original design is the basis for mine. Lowfuel, thanks for sharing.
It's made of 2 peices of angled differnt sized aluminum. Since I didn't have the ability to weld aluminum I opted for another method of connecting them by bolting the 2 pieces together. Not as stong as a weld but turns out it's durable enough for this application.
Here's an early autocross video from when I first used it:

It's a big file and requires Windows Media Player 9 or you only get sound.
I'll post the instructions and more pics when I get a chance to take more photos.

I built a camera mount based on this design when it was first posted. The actual part that you are asking about is a mini-tripod that has the three legs that fold together. I found mine on E-Bay listed as a "Tripod Mini Lenmar". If you search on mini-tripods you will see others that will work. They look like this:
