Question Subwoofer response: Nazar glovebox mount vs Corner side firing custom enclosure

Title says it all. Did anyone compare subwoofer response from both builds? I want to get the best subwoofer response I can, and the stock Bose is absolutely horrible so I'll be changing out the whole system in the coming months.

The Nazar stealth box saves space, but is expensive. I can fiberglass my own corner box to fit a 10" sub in about 0.5 cuft but it will fire to the side, not to the rear. So it really comes down to cost vs bass response vs saving space.

Go with a corner loaded box.

If you have an 07-08 and you get the pods you might want to mold them. Mine have small gaps, but I believe that if I get some weather stripping I might be able to fix that problem.

Corner box will be louder then th eGlove box, Unless you get the 13Tw5 Glove Box. If you end up getting lazy and don't want to build one let me know. I will get one out to you.

thanks for the info! I enjoy working with fiberglass, oddly enough, so I'm actually looking forward to the project.

If the 13Tw5 was only a cheaper sub...... lol

I understand that the TW5 is a neat subwoofer, but saying what you said is a little presumptuous...especially considering that there are plenty of deeper subwoofers that will/can out-perform the TW5 and work quite well in a corner loaded enclosure. The TW5 does a very good job at providing good output out of a small mounting depth, but it's not the end-all to subwoofers as we know it.

This is, of course, unless I'm totally missing something.

I'm assuming by the corner box that you are refering to an average-sized enclosure, average mounting depth, subwoofer enclosure that goes in the back corner of the Z.

If that's the case, mounting the subwoofer in the back corner has many advantages over the middle location that the "glove box" location offers. Notably, a rear corner loading enclosure is going to be the furthest point away from the listener and it's going to be less prone to developing nulls (or voids / dips / etc) in the response curve from cancellation issues associated with mid-vehicle mounted subwoofer enclosures.

The TW5 has, what, 9mm of linear travel from a standard motor topology? Given that you don't need a ***** ton of throw (especially for small enclosure, moderate power subwoofers) for daily use, the TW5 isn't going to be a revolution to subwoofers in general. To slim subwoofers, yes, it has some neat ideas implemented into it, but that doesn't mean that it will stomp everything else out there no matter what the size/weight/etc.

If I am correct on where a corner loaded box is located (behind the axel on the right or left hand side), it offers far more advantages than the "glove box" location offers. Like I mentioned earlier, you'll get a much more consistent overall response when you place the subwoofer in the very back of the vehicle - especially in a hatch. Not only that, you will avoid any nulls associated with mid-vehicle mounted subwoofers. What this means is that you will end up with a much easier to tune, much flatter (overall response) subwoofer response that's easier on the ears. It also might be a touch louder. A corner loaded box is also over the rear axel, providing a touch more weight back where you need it in a RWD modern-day muscle car.

Sorry for the rant.

When i took my glove box subwoofer and put it in the trunk, it sounded a hell of a lot better. I need all the trunk space I have, so i corner box or anything else wouldn't due, so I went with the glove box, it still sounds 100X better than a bose sub.
