Default Sub/Amp Help

I'm trying to find a decent quality single 12" sub and amp combo for under $500. I'm doing a nice little build in my girlfriend's civic, and the only brand ive ever dealt with is Memphis. But I'm lookin for something a little 'prettier' this time for her though, like audiobahn, beacause the sub will be inverted. Currently i'm leaning towards these...

Willthis combo work well? Quality sound? Any other product suggestions would be great...and by the way that woofersetc.com is a great site

Default Amp / Sub

Depends on the type of music you want to listen to...

Hifonics makes good stuff, I am a fan of Zapco now. Image Dynamics has some high quality subs as does Fi... not sure what you define as pretty... but I'd much rather have high quality functioning equipment...

I am in the process of installing a Zapco 200.2 and a 500.1. Focal fronts and an Image Dynamic IDQ10. The stuff is pricey but woofersetc sells all of the brands but Fi and you can purchase them directly anyway.

It's really just based on your listening preferences though, plus go to a local shop and check out some different sub/amp combos and pick out something you like. What I like and how I tune my system you may find to be horrible...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE run away from the Audiobahn garbage!!!!!!

Diamond Audio D612d2 (IMHO a beautiful aluminum cone and a gorgeous magnet/motor structure):
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2703

Crossfire XP600D:
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5815

This will give you a fantastic setup for $520. Bridge the sub down to 1ohm, and you will be getting a very conservatively rated 600 rms to the single 12" sub. The Diamond D6 line is their more SQ oriented sub, so it will give you very nice sub bass, but is not an overly obnoxiously loud sub. I like these drivers sealed, but ported could be done well too.

direct from their site
BP power......
We just added the "BP Power" option to both the SSD and Q series subwoofers.
This new option adds a machined aluminum compression plug to the pole which helps channel all of the air under the dustcap around the coil for better cooling. To aid with this increased airflow we also add 6 axial cooling channels in the top plate. Along with increased thermal capacity comes the addition of an extra spider and a changed spider pack.
All of these new features increase power handling from 200-500 Watts depending on the application.

I've got a Memphis 16-MC1500D:

MClass Series
1 x 750W @ 4 ohms (0.75% THD)
1 x 1500W @ 2 ohms (1% THD)
S/N Ratio: >100dB
Freq. Response: 10Hz ∼ 650Hz (± 1dB)
Same board as Memphis 16-ST1500D

Will this work well with the Q12? Or would the hifonics amp be a better choice for this sub?

That was one of the amps you actually suggested to someone else with a similar setup, plus at the Fi forum that was a recommended amp as well

I actually do believe you are correct. Was it to pair with a Fi Q? I can't remember. The reason behind my comment above is the Fi Q is a SQ oriented sub whereas the HiFonics TXi amps are not really SQ oriented amps. For the money, the HiFonics amps are hard to beat, but if the budget allows, I would look a little higher up the SQ chain.

But then thinking to myself, I'm being kind of hypocritical here I guess because I usually maintain the stance that "a watt is a watt", at least with subs. And I do still stand by that. For sub duties, I usually always say that the coloration from an amp is not noticed. So my thought process when typing the post above #13 would really apply more if the amp were to be paired with a nice set of comps rather than a sub. I concede that although there is a difference with subs that are designed for SQ, I do not believe there is much of a discernible difference in class D monoblocks that would classify one "more SQ" than another. The sheer topological inherent characteristics defies that logic.
