Default Pre-Outputs on Stock stereo?

My friend seems to think that some newer cars have pre-outs built into the stock stereo. I personally have not heard but I am no expert in the audio field. I have the Non-Bose stereo, does it have pre-outs?

I just wanna throw in a powered base tube and I am wary about replacing the stock deck, 1 reason is I don't want people trying to break in to steal it and the 2nd is that I like the way the stock deck completes the interior, installing an outside deck looks to break up the interior to me a bit too much.

Thanks for the help!

yes, if you mean pre-out as in amplify, then yes. but only enough to power the crappy stock speakers. If you want to install the powered base tube (sub, i assume) you need an amplifier, line output converter to step down the 'pre-out' signal from the HU (or else you'll blow the amp) and power from the battery to power the amp.

No, if you mean Aux-outputs, you need a line output convert to get signals step down for amp or FM-transmiter to get signals into the HU (ie IPod or md player)

Check out the audio section of the forum for ideas and more help.

Maybe I am being misunderstood.. Its a powered base tube, it has a built in amp. I know I will have to run the remote and power wire. I am wondering if the back of the stock head unit has an output (pre-outs, RCAs that plug into the amp in which it gets the sound directly from the stock head unit).

EDIT: I think I got my answer in another tread, seen a pic of the back of the stock head unit, no pre-outs seen

Nope, the factory head unit doesn't have RCA outputs at all. From being in the car audio industry for 8 years I can tell you that there are very few factory head units that do have RCA outputs. Usually you'll only find factory RCA outputs on certain cars that actually have a version of an aftermarket radio. for example, the MP3 edition mazda protege, it has a kenwood stereo that is actually an aftermaket unit. I've also seen some Vipers that have RCA outputs (Alpine factory unit) to run the factory Alpine amps. Other than that, I can't recall any factory radios that have RCA outputs.
