Subframe Behind Kick panels
Hi Guys,
I just picked up my z last week and I'm less than impressed with the sound. I'm looking at mounting some two ways in the kicks. Only problem is I'm an Aussie and we have a throttle pedal where you guys have a dead pedal. As I obviously cant build it out I was wondering what the extent of the sub frame is behind the kicks. I've got no problems cutting our the sub frame but theres not much point if I'll only pick up half an inch or so. Has anyone recessed their speakers far enough into the sub frame to get them flush with the existing kick panel face?

i know Louis, who did that car well, in gneral conecpet is nots difficult, just a ton of work:
1. remove all wiring and moduels from both kick area, by cutting and extending about a hundred factory wires (dont screw up on even one hehe) and move them up into the dash
2. plasma cut the front panel metal out of the kick area, this gains you quite a bit of space acutally into the outter frame
3. dampen, and mold in baffle, put in speaker
just be prepared to spend a lot of time on it, just o the wiring alone, you dont want to rush thing extending factory wires hehe

Wire extensions...Yuk! I've just installed a home made ecu and efi engine in an old carb'd car. I was hoping to not have to touch any wiring looms for a while. I'm thinking though if the wiring and modules are behind the drivers (left) side kick for you it might be on the passenger (left) side for our right hand drive models. This would mean the only kick I need to flush mount is the drivers which wouldnt have a loom behind it. I think it might just be wishful thinking on my part though hehe.
it is ideed wishful thinking, just pull off the stock kicks and you will see how much stuff you have to move and extend...
