Default installing 6.5" speakers.

i haven't seen much about a diy on the speakers behind the seats. i'm not a big audio buff by no means. my main question is: before i rip out all the plastic to get to the speakers will the ones that i have even fit? they're memphis PR 15-PR62. the mounting depth is 2.25". i got these from a friend for free. any help or links would be appreciated thanks.

I put 6.5 in my stock location with no probs. Just don't rip out the plastic tho, you need to remove the panel across.

well that's what i was saying. just removing all the plastic panelling. it's just gonna be a pain in the ****. i'm just worried about that tweeter since it sits a bit above the rest of the speaker. i'm not too sure how much room i have to play with between the stock speaker and grill.

you have plenty of room. i just installed 6.5 infinity speakers back there. removing the plastic piece is pretty straightforward, just be sure to reinstall it carefully.

I would not even install aftermarket speakers in the rear, as the fronts are more important since they are providing most, if not all, of your system's sound. The rears are just there to give a bit of fill, but if your fronts are set up right, you shouldn't need the rears. If you want to run rears, the stock speakers work just fine. Save your time and cash and just leave the stock speakers in place.

+1.
There's about 1/2 space between where the speaker mounts and the actuall factor plastic grill. I know, because I actually forced one of my factor grills off with a screwdriver. It's held on by a few non-removable plastic rivets. They break off if you pry hard enough. Luckily the grill snaps back into place...
