On the roof, my reception is perfect. On the strut bar, in certain area of Las Vegas, I lose reception (near my house). My concern is the paint under the antenna (my GF had a similar antenna on her Honda for 2 years and it scuffed her paint pretty badly). I may move the antenna inside the cabin to experiment.

Honestly, I'm slightly nervous about long-term exposure to the satellite signal (I have a sirius unit in my cubicle at work, and the antenna is like 2 feet from me...I've had this setup since Jan of '06).

Maybe I'm just a wee bit paranoid?
Well its just another radio wave fequency (2.3 GHz). It shouldn't be a problem. Wireless networks operate on about the same frequencies.

Placement of the antenna will not have any affect on the amount of electromagnetic radiation you're exposed to. Remember, the signal is beamed from space and covers a wide area of the earth's surface. The antenna doesn't "attract" the signal, it just picks up what's there. You probably need to be more concerned about microwave radiation from security systems, etc.

That’s not something you want, and it isn’t a solution to the specific reception problem (i.e., optimum placement/position of your satellite antenna) this thread discusses.
