Default stock nav replacement help

ive got 03 z and am replacing the screen in the cubby but the new screen has various button on the bottom .im pretty sure the old nav control buttons where you type in your destination is gonna give me a problem.i think they will be in the way and make the power button and volume buttons on the new screen impossible to use cause they would be too low and covered up by the stock control unit?kinda hard to explain.ive seen some installs here and they took the old nav controls out and have some kind of plastic trim thay they must have glued in.what is that plastic from?any ideas what i can replace the stock controls with so i can use the new screen?the new screen is touch screen .maybee i wont need to use the button at all?its the jensen mz7tft model and i also got the nav box also coming couple days

I too had stock Navi and I have the same problem. I need to replace the Navi plate with the stock non-navi blank plate. Problem is, you can't buy just that part which is quite....um...homosexual. You can get the whole cubby and plate and all the hardware for $186 US but thats um....semi-homosexual.

I have a bare screen up top and I drilled a tinly hole in the bottom edge of the screen bezel so I can have some access to the Power button on my Alpine if it ever needs bypassing for whatever reason. Once I get the blank plate, it will cover this hole quite nicely. Just gotta find a damn plate.

You sure that Jensen will fit in there depth-wise?

Just remember, width and height are not much of an issue...its when you add depth to the equation and you run into all sorts of issues. Also, remember all of the wiring that is coming out of the deck needs to be tucked in behind there somewhere. Even in the factory radio spot it can be a big pain fitting all that stuff in behind.
