Where do you mount your amps?
Where do you guys normally mount your amps? I'm not sure sure if I should do it behind the seat, under the seats, or in the back in the hatch?

Did one of mine under the seat and my sub is powered. Since the space under the seat can't be used for much else, I used it for the amp. Everywhere else you could use the space for something else.

I would suggest glove box or compartment behind driver's seat.
Under the seat is kinda dangerous if you spill something, but then again, anyone bringing a big gulp into your Z should be slapped anyway.

mount
Behind drivers seat, made a couple of custom brackets, used expoxy to bond the rear of the board witha screw run into it so I can remove it, saves time and fabrication of difficult to measure brackets.
PM I will send you pics if I can find them.

+111111 For under the seat(s). Have a roadster w/not much space. So options were limited. Worried about heat but have not had any issues w/ two roadster w/total of ~100k miles (Kenwood amps). Just do the math and make sure they fit.

I am building my system and I am undecided between the glove box and the compartment behind the driver's seat... I guess I'll have it in glove box until I adjust everything correctly and then seal it up behind driver's seat so it's harder for thieves to get to but I won't be able to show off my amps then

tuning
No point in redoing everything twice, I did exactly what you are talking about doing and it's way more trouble than it's worth, you just end up doing everything twice.
Can you bend alluminum?
to make the brackets u will have to bend the brackets and you will have to know how to use a protractor to get an idea of the angle. I cannot remember what it was, sry.
Just leave enough extra wire so you can tune and get easy access to the amps then redress and install permanently.
What's your budget?
What are you installing?
What is your objective? SQ not SPL, right?
If you can afford it get Zapco amps w/ usb tuning ability, it basically removes any need for an eq.

I have a roadster and we mounted mine in the passenger glove box. We ran the external bass control underneath the glove box and its going to come up next to the heated seat buttons in the empty slot. We took out the factory Bose and are replacing it with a rockford stage III sub.

Is that a free air sub? If not you need a ported or even better seal box for the sub. Check w/Nazar @ WickedCAS (search the site). It fits perfectly in the old sub spot and sounds excellent. But, you've got to pay to play!

I've got the amp for my components in the space where the factory sub goes (though I have the base model so it was non-exsistent) and the amp for my subs in the glove box - that sub has overheated but only when I've been running the stereo at 8/10ths for 6 hour road trips.

+x on stock sub location, behind driver seat. Two Alpine PDX amps, stacked, with crossovers and distro block. Used a piece of MDF, and brackets from Home Depot to mount the board to some screw locations. Originally I had my one amp in the glovebox, but that was sort of a nuisance due to not having any storage space.

Glue rather than screws.
The brackets aren't that hard to measure. Here's my 2005 installation. I used the wood thinking I would use it as a template and transfer everything to something sexy like copper or aluminum plate. Then I realized that nobody actually sees inside the subwoofer compartment, copper plate is really expensive and heavy, and that I never actually drive the car.
Fits just fine.

boo for under seat.... too much crap can get to them
if your putting a system in you wont be able to get to the spare tire anyways, put them there on a nice amp rack and lose the 25+lb spare
