Default Bose - Lack of midrange free mod

So the Bose system definitely doesnt measure up for most kinds of music. I talked to a couple of high end car audio installers and from what I understand, the pieces are actually half decent, but the equalization is biased towards classical music (FLAT AS HELL - as if the speakers are full of lint) and vocals/bass get lost entirely.

The free way of getting around this if you have an ipod is to set your EQ to something like spoken word. It won't sound great, but the EQ is somewhat natural sounding and its got a little more bite.

BTW, Bose confirmed that in the newer models (06+?) the speakers are 2ohms - so an Infinity drop in sounds like a hot idea and shouldnt screw anything up.

I have to agree.

Spending money trying to make the factory bose system better aside from replacing it altogether is as senseless as modding a Ford Topaz.

I started with a Bose system. Replaced the head unit first. Pioneer AVIC 700. I have a DVD player mounted in the small cubby behind the pass. seat, a 7in Clarion screen above the AVIC700.The back mid 6.5 are now 6.5 Memphis with 3/4in Memphis soft dome tweeters beside them. The front door speakers are Pioneer 3 way 6.5IN. The top door tweeters are Memphis 3/4in hard domes. I have a 10in kicker comp where the Bose sub was located. I now have a Kicker solobarick SL8 located in the hatch area, sub box being 1/2 cu. I have an Alpine 75w x 4 running the mids and tweets. The solobarick is run by a Memphis Class D 500wt monoblock. The 10in Kicker is Run by a Kicker 150wt x2 bridged to 300wt. I have the Memphis amp Under the Pass. seat, the Kicker amp under the drivers seat, and the Alpine amp in the spare tire well, left rear corner(same location as the stock 4 chn. Bose). With all this equipment, the only thing you see is the head unit ,monitor, and 8 in sub. Sound is now amazing.

The designed for classical music versus designed to rock and roll is a 50 year old myth. As old as the Heathkit above built by hi-fi fans because there was nothing available.

how about turning down bass & treble to -1 or -2?
That should even-out the perpetual classical eq.

I'll never understand all the Bose hate. It's a good stock system. Adjust the bass, mid and treble, sounds fine.
