The pro's of the AVX810 over the other unit:
More preamp outputs (5ch instead of only 3ch)
higher voltage preamp outputs (5v instead of 2.5v)
iPod control built in
SD card slot (no usb slot, if this appeals to you)
AAC support (in case you listen to lossless Apple format)
European tuning (if you take your car over the pond)

according to Cruthfield, they both have USB and SD inputs....not sure if they got that right or not.
I agree with you that they are so similiar, that if the pre-outs don't influence the purchase, then I would go with whichever I think looks the best.
