Default Differences in HDMI cables?

So I just bought a 46" LED TV and got a Sony HDMI cable ($40) to test out and the picture was pretty clear.. I then ordered a cheaper "premium" one off Monoprice ($13) and noticed that it sucked compared to the Sony HDMI.

They both claim the same specs, 1.3A, 10.8 GBps and up to 240hz but the Sony came out on top.. my question is... are there any better ones out there that you've guys tried in comparison that ain't over the top price wise.. MOnster cable ($100 a pop)? I'm new to HD tv and using HDMI cables so just curious... thank!

Hold that thought....I did the same a few years back and my Monoprice cable looked the EXACT same as the 20 dollar cable from Sams Club. No way you need to pay 40 dollars for a cable dude. Check out this article from CNET here and maybe it will make you change your mind. Maybe the one cable from Monoprice was bad or something but I have three cables from them in my home entertainment system and they look amazing.

I have 8 monoprice HDMI Cables on various components.. they all work beautifully.. however what i'm confused about is.. he says the cable sucks...

its a Digital Cable.. its 1's and 0's... Digital is not like coax cables.. or rca cables.. it either works or it doesn't work.. you either get picture and sound or you don't get any picture or sound.. there is no this picture sucks or that picture is clear.. its not possible.. the only difference can be on audio quality.. not picture

so again.. how exactly does the cable suck compared to the sony one?

Monster cable is BS. The whole point of a digital signal was no interference.

Monoprice HDMI cable will work just as well as the Monster $100 cable.

You just don't pay the brand-name tax.

You see what you want to believe..

You probably feel that way because you spent 40$ on a cable so you want to believe it looks better then the 13$ cable.

I hope you can still return that rip off Sony hdmi.

I am 100% on the bandwagon that you do NOT have to pay big money for 'boutique' cables for digital transfer. I actually am a 10 year veteran in a digital transmission industry and you should see the cables we use for the VERY high data-rate connections (I'm talking STS 10gig-E bit rates here). Digital is not affected by emi/rf like the cable manufacturers want you to think. Digital signals can degrade, but I'm talking over LOOOOOONG runs (i.e. miles), not the distances most are using for their HDMI runs. I believe it has been certified that HDMI 1.3b can transmit up to 50' without any measurable degradation. And this degradation isn't with the wire, it's a limit of the transmitter.

I personally bought Dayton Audio HDMI cables from Parts Express on sale for I think $8 per 2 meter cable (I think that was the price). I have also heard super things about the quality of the Monoprice cables. For HDMI cables it's more about the build quality and how the connectors fit rather than the quality of the actual cable medium used. The same goes for your digital audio cables.

Maybe you got a bad cable where the contacts in the plug ends are damaged?

EDIT......
Here are the exact cables I ordered. Awesome cable and an awesome price.

Don't get me wrong.. I love Monoprice cables.. their quality are awesome but I don't know.. I've tried both cables, Sony and Monoprice watching the exact same scene and did notice that the Monoprice one had a tab bit "gainy" picture to it compared to the Sony cable *shrug*

I even called the wife out to check it out without saying anything and she too said the Monoprice one had a grainy picture.. who knows.. guess we are both seeing things?

First off, wrong section. Unless of course your TV is mounted in your Z.

Second, digital is digital, like everyone is saying. You thinking the Sony cable is better is just in your head, or you got a bum cable from Monoprice.

Third, why the hell did you pay so much? I bought my cable from Monoprice for like $4 (or less).

I got the premium Category 2 1.3a 10.2gbps 120hz HDMI cable. It cost a lil more cuz I got a 12ft one since my bluray player is a lil far from the tv.

I think I've been getting my HDMI cables for about $3 or $4 each, I can't imagine paying 40+ for one...there is no point other than lightening your wallet.

I have to agree that digital is digital and that the picture will not be affected by the cable, now here is where it all changes. With HDMI there is more than just sending a audio and video signal. There is actual communication between the two devices and this is where the difference is between HDMI cables. If the cable cannot handle the bitstream of one device or the other, guess what you will not have signal. The bitstream is not for the actual quality of the signal, but the communication of the two devices.

Yeah they had a promotion here at Fry's for $2237 OTD for the Samsung 55" LED + free Samsung bluray player and also $1800 OTD Samsung 46" 7000 series + free bluray player.

I opted for the 46" since I live in an apartment. I'm lovin' every minute of it!
