Default Hella Supertones

The stock horns on the z are fairly terrible, and after running into a kid w/ these horns on his STi, I think I will try to install them onto the z. However, they arent snail shaped like the stock horns; they just kind of look like speakers.

I'm wondering if they will mount decently easily to the z; I guess I want to put them in the grill. however, I might get the injen CAI in the future - would these conflict w/ each other? Perhaps mounting them facing forward isnt feasible.. i'm considering mounting them facing downward, and possibly fixing in place with some strong tape.

The 'new' horns sound like they play one octave lower which isn't that much of a difference. Maybe a little louder but I really don't see much of a point. The horns can be mounted pretty much anywhere. In the stock location is up at the bumper would be sufficient.

At least they don't sound like my really gay JDM horns that the previous owner installed.

Half way down this page shows you where the are in relation to the car, as well as the left/right-high/low position.

they bolt right on, and facing forward is just fine

tape would not hold them, they need to be bolted in place

stock horn is on the passenger 'half' of the front bumper, above the power steering cooler

we always have them in stock if anyone needs

installed the Hella horns on the 350z as a direct replacement of stock horns. the install has easy, however didn't install the relay which comes with the Hella horns. does anyone know where the stock relay for the horn is located? the hella horn works but wondering if the aftermarket relay makes the hella horn louder?

You can install 1 without taking the bumper off but your arms will get stuck/scraped up. I replaced the 1 closest to the hood latch with a "bad boy" horn. I need to get a second 1. It definitely gets more attention. People get pissed when they come into my lane now.

I wonder if a Armada/Titan horn is louder than the stock Z's... I put GX470 horns on my SC300, it made a hell of a difference.

Not much to it - just bolt them on and plug them in. If a relay is included in your kit, it's not needed. I have a similar set on my BMW 635, and FWIW, I don't think there's anything lacking with the OEM horns on my '08 Z.

I finally got a chance to install my Hella Sharptone horns (yellow) on my 04 Z. I can't help but feel that the OEM horns were louder than these Sharptones, or it could be that I may have connected the leads to the horns wrong, or there is a problem elsewhere, as they just don't seem as powerful as I though they would be.

On the back of my horns there weren't any + or - markings

Ahhh... hell naw. I didn't like the sound of the red supertone so I opt for the yellow sharptone and to read your post that they're not louder than stock... really regretting my purchase now.

I finally got off my lazy a$$ to install the Sharpetone horn. These are loud as fck, I can post a video if needed but these are annoyingly loud... like train horn loud. I wanted my horn to be loud because people tend to "accidentally" cross over into my lane all the time and can't hear my stock horns... this won't be the issue anymore.

The wiring is complete plug and play which was mentioned above. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which lead on the iirc, just check for functionality before install. I relocated my horns for the jdm/cool location factor... my only regret is I should've spaced them off the the left more so the both sit flat and flush, it looks like the right horn have a bit of a tilt.

Update: turns out the horn appears to be really loud while parked in the garage but out on the highway/freeway rolling... the horn is just a little bit louder than stock. It looks better than stock though.

Back from the dead... again.

You must use the relay to get the full sound/power. We installed these on my son’s Corolla without the relay and they weren’t that loud. After installing using the relay, it’s frightening loud. Tonight I’ll install them on my Z using the relay. I’ll keep my stock horns installed too. If I get it done, I’ll post a video.
