Anyone install the Bose headunit on a Track from the Touring model ?
I wanted to ask this because my friend is really hiped on getting this unit. I don't have my roadster yet so I can't tell what the wiring is for the touring model.
Hmmm...interesting question. But, my question to you is why would your friend want to do this ? The Bose HU suxx, possibly worse than the standard HU.
Anyways, I am sure the install is possible, but not easily. You have to realize something very important when swapping from the factory single disc HU to the Bose in-dash changer HU. The Single disc model uses an internal amplifier which has standard speaker level outputs, and the Bose uses differentially driven outputs. The differential outputs travel to the rear hatch, where they get converted then amplified by the sucky-a**ed Bose amp in the hatch. There is also a built in xover which sends the low frequency output to the sub amplifier located behind the drivers seat.
Either way, it won't be plug and play, I tried it with a guy in Florida a few months back. If he does hook it up, he will find very low volume, cracking output, etc. The only way to use the Bose HU will be to use the entire Bose system (HU and amp) or convert the diff output from the Bose HU to a standard output, which is possible. A company called Soundgate makes these convertors, but you will have to order them and they are hard to get, and slow to get. They aren't cheap either.
I ended up gutting my entire system and replacing it with something that sounded good, which you will never get with the Bose no matter what you do. That HU is not upgradebale (amps, etc), and the overall sound quality is extremely disappointing.

Some peope are happy with it...but I have never heard a really great sounding Bose system. However, they are typically alot better than the stock system. In the case of the Z, its very disapppointing...

Nissan Corp told me back in May that you would have to rewire the entire auto to complete the install correctly. Others who have posted have said the same thing.
You guys are correct that you can't even plug and play just the 6cd changer instead of the base hu. If you could get it wired it would be awful, as the power is in the amp and the Bose speaker enclosures must be there as well for that "signature Bose sound", which as we all know sucks anyway.
Before I knew anything about it I bought an entire system for $100.00 on ebay and had to scrap it. It just wasnt worth trying to get a used harness and then rewire for the known problematic Bose. Finally found a Bose repair shop in Fla that gave me what I had in it.
Take the advise of so many who have posted before us. Save your money and Upgrade. Or go get the cheapest cheesy nasty sounding HU you can find. It will still be head and shoulders above the Bose.
Good Luck
