Need advice on sub/comp plan - newbie
Please note that I have never worked with amps/subs. So, please bare with me here.
After hours of educating myself, I put together something within my budget.
See the attached schematic for what I planned so far.
Some newbie questions I haven't able to answer to myself:
1. Kappa comp has 2 ohm impedance, and 4 ohm seems to be the industry standard. Is there noncompatibility issue?
2. Are the wire sizes sufficient? Any monster 200 series RCA cables okay?
3. If I install the amps in glove compartment, is vent/fan necessary?
4. What type of fuse do you recommend?
5. Are there any other potential problems I don't see here?
Thanks in advance.

The 500/1 JL am will do fine alone in the glove box with out a Fan. Behind the driver seat were the oem bose suppose to be you can put the speaker 400/w.e amp in there. THat the way i have had it for 2 years now and i have not have one amp break down for anything.

+1 on amp location. I have one in glove box space (Rockford Fosgate 600.1) and one in the bose sub location (RF 400.4). No issues with heat.
On the impedance of the Kappas, should be fine with a 4 ohm amp but you might give a quick call to Crutchfield. If they have the same model in their catalog, they are usually really helpful without trying to strong arm you into a sale.
You might search around for DIY on how to remove the rear trim piece that surrounds those cubby openings. You won't be able to pull the stock bose sub mounting plate without pulling that off.
You should also plan ahead to ensure that your power / ground cables don't cross your RCA cables as this can induce noise.
Check out Zenclosures.com for great sub boxes for the Z. Well made, easy to use.

1. Kappa comp has 2 ohm impedance, and 4 ohm seems to be the industry standard. Is there noncompatibility issue? The 2-ohm components would have been fine for use with the JL Audio amps, which have a regulated power supply and deliver the same power regardless of load. But it seems you chosen a 4-ohm set which is better in my opinion (from a future upgradability and sound quality perspective)
2. Are the wire sizes sufficient? Any monster 200 series RCA cables okay? I would look at brands other than Monster for a better deal. Monster cables are overpriced. Look at Parts Express, Monoprice, or KnuKonceptz for great quality cables for a great price.
3. If I install the amps in glove compartment, is vent/fan necessary? I have 2 amps in the factory sub location with no fan or venting for 2 years and no overheating issues.
4. What type of fuse do you recommend? Huh? I'm not sure which fuse you are asking about. Any multi-amp wire kit will come with an inline fuse to place within 1 foot of the battery, and either inline fuses or a fused distribution block for the individual amps.

I had no idea amp wiring kits were so expensive. Especially with 1/0 gauge wire. I only spent $200 for 500/1 amp and I'm forced to spend another $100 for wiring... I hope every pennies count toward "upgrade sq".
Again, thank you all.
Again, thank you all.
