Default Can't decide between 2 subs. Need xpurt opinions...

I am not by any means the most knowledgeable subwoofer guy in the world, and I'm looking for some good advice. I am going to run one 10" sub in my car, powered by a Kicker750.1 monoblock amp. Amp is rated for 750 RMS and 942 true power. I want something that sounds very clean but packs a good punch for a 10". Here are the two competitors:

In the first corner....

The Phoenix Gold RSdc 102

IMPEDANCE (ohms) 2+2
FREQUENCY RESPONSE 29-300Hz
POWER HANDLING (RMS) 600W
POWER HANDLING (Peak) 1200W
MOUNTING DIAMETER 8.94" (227mm)
MOUNTING DEPTH 5.80" (147mm)
WEIGHT 16.5 lbs (7.5 kg)

In the other corner...

The JL 10" W3V3-2

Free Air Resonance (Fs): 32.97 Hz
Electrical “Q” (Qes): 0.533
Mechanical “Q” (Qms): 7.027
Total Speaker “Q” (Qts): 0.495
Equivalent Compliance (Vas): 1.136 cu. ft. / 32.17 liters
One-Way, Linear Excursion (Xmax)*: 0.550 in. / 14.0 mm
Reference Efficiency (no): 0.208%
Efficiency (1W/1m)**: 85.37 dB SPL
Effective Piston Area (Sd): 53.475 sq. in. / 0.0345 sq. m.
DC Resistance (Re): 1.70 ohm
Nominal Impedance (Znom): 2 ohm
Thermal Power Handling (Pt): 500W
Driver Displacement: 0.049 cu. ft. / 1.39 liters
Net Weight: 12.25 lbs. / 5.56 kg

In all honesty, read some reviews online and try to find comparisons.

Also, going into audio shops and listening to them in person does a world of good aswell.

Quite honestly, the W3 is the most over-rated sub I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. I have built custom sealed and ported enclosures for this sub and it is so incredibly underwhelming that words cannot express my distain for it.

That said, the W6 is a much better sub. W7 is kind of horrible for the price.
I have made a single ported enclosure for the PG that you listed and it sounded pretty darn good with 500 watts to it.

There are many other options that are better though. please keep an open mind and listen to them at your local stereo shop.

Dude spend some time researching because the 3 subs you mentioned arent even considered one of the top 3. Check out caraudio.com internet speakers blow away this name brand stuff that has come to bump in our trunks. Double D's.IDmax, sundown nightshades, mmats, RE, lethal injection,Type r check it out before you spend your $. Forget jl,kicker and all these companies just selling a name and never listen to installers their just trying to sell whats on the shelf. Ive heard the rsd arent bad for the price but type r will knock em out the box. B4 you buy a sub make sure you research the required space.

thanks for your input duro, I will look around for the names that you mentioned. And yes, though I want power, my main focus is the sound quality. I want clean, crisp, tight bass with decent range.

Does anyone else have any input? Perhaps a particular brand/model I should look at? Thanks!

I run a Digital Designs 3510 DVC2 off of a DD M3 amplifier (2400 watts RMS X1 at 1 ohm). Yes, its crazy power to that sub but it sounds impressive. Enclosure is a sealed 1.0 cubes. I haven't heard too many other SQ setups with as clean of bass as mine.

1. define what you want out of a sub

2. define your budget

3A. figure out how your big your box is going to be, and where it's going to be

4. find a sub that offers a good amount of efficiency given the above

1. Clean accurate bass that still packs a punch!

2. Preferably under $160

3. Zenclosures Type S box (.80ft^3). Sealed, not ported.

4.

Look into digital designs. I think one of the best woofers sq wise and can hold a ton of power are the 8" 1500 series. They pack a ton of punch and are precise to say the least. They need ported boxes rather than sealed. Its just what the company recommends. People get away with sealed boxes like orgasm donor, and usually do very well at it. I have just heard the difference between these subs sealed and ported and they are monsters ported and in bandpass designs. Of course its just an opinion, but i have had very good luck with a few of their lines. Good Luck!

+1 on ID.

Find a sub to suit your needs first, then your amp
