Default Broken OEM Nav Drive - Aftermarket GPS?

My OEM NAV drive just crapped out on me.

The dealer wants $3400 for the drive...That's not going to happen.

Does anyone have experience repairing/replacing the oem laser/drive?

Does anyone know who made the stock nav unit dvd drive?

Has anyone ever put an aftermarket nav in behind the oem factory nav trim?

For that price I would rather get a superior aftermarket unit and put it in. Thanks anyways.

LOL sure. I plan on parting out the entire center nav unit. I'll keep the control panel though. I've looked at the magellan roadmate 1700. However the $90 Plenio is appealing...can't find it anywhere though especially for that price.
