Default amplifiers, speakers, and subs.. oh my.

I have a 2003 Touring Z with the bose no navigation. My stock 6-disc changer started skipping like crazy so i replaced it with Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD. I love it, but wish I waited until now and got the 4200dvd.

The stock sub literally pops and cracks in and out with the bass. it had issues before i replaced the head unit. And recently the drivers side door speaker sounds hazy. I got my tax refund and wanna replace the sub and speakers... based on previous comments in this forum, i am only changing the door speakers and plan to unplug the rears. I'm not familiar with the good brands or cheaper solutions for a better or similar sound. instead of asking you guys what i want, i put together a list of what i think i want based on crutchfield reviews... I listen to classic rock to metal, rap, and country... and the occasional pop song when my chick is riding. ugh.

thoughts and experiences with:
Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-1 http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_5...ch-P300-1.html
JL Audio 10W1v2-4 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13610W1...-10W1v2-4.html
Kicker 07DS5250 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20607DS...-07DS5250.html

thanks.

I like the infinity reference series for that price range. haven't really heard the kickers too much, and with the w1 it might leave you wanting more bass later on.

Also run another amp for the door speakers. Helps with sound/volume.

Question: How do you plan to seal the SubW?

@350junkie
is this the Infinity Reference you are talking about?
Infinity Reference 5030cs http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1085030...ce-5030cs.html

if so, crutchfield says they do not fit in the door... is that a typo on their part?

@Spike100
my intention was to build a custom box to fit somewhat in the stock location. it doesnt have to mount flush to the grille as no one would ever notice it behind the seat. i have seen blueprints somewhere around here to build a box to go back in there.

Many members here have asked how to do this. When you create this solution, please post the details. When you do this, you will be the next star on my350z.com.

They will fit. Maybe not as flush as you would want but I slammed some Focal's that are 2.8" of mounting depth and 6 1/2" wide in there and the only thing you can tell by is that the grill is a little offset on the bottom side. Here's a link to my speakers:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...al+165+KF.html

Crutchfield is NOT an all inclusive site. My speakers aren't even on there.

PS. I fit a JL 10W6 in the stock location. Had to use a fiberglass box though.

True; Crutchfield does not sell every model...

...But, the speakers you reference (and that is the model I am using) are no longer manufactured, and I'm not sure where you can buy these (if that's even possilbe).

lol i just noticed that like 20 minutes ago.

sorry about that, just referencing them for size really

for the price you're looking at I'd get some coaxial's like: http://www.cartoys.com/products/prod...y_car_speakers

and those infinities you linked are AMAZING, if you're willing to spend that. They will also need a separate amp to run them properly. Would recommend them or something similar since you aren't replacing the rears.

Also, might look into try the "newer" JL Audio HD amps like these: http://www.cartoys.com/products/prod...nge_Amplifier/

note they make those amps in different amperage/channel configs too

Note: I took the liberty of removing the text you added after posting your original message, and the above quoted text is what you posted before your EDIT.

The new Focal models replacing the 165’s are 6.75” diameter. Crutchfield specs these models as not fitting in the 350/370 Z’s front doors.

In fact, you needed the 165/Slim Focal (also discontinued) to fit the Z’s front door’s stock mount.

The “normal-depth” Focal 165 and its replacement models fit the Z if you mount door pods or kicks, which is what you should be doing anyway.

.... noted I'm kinda upset at them about dropping the 6 1/2's. Kinda kills my 4 year replacement warranty.

Not to worry... Your warranty is in place since Focal will provide the individual replacement parts as well as a total swap. You can go either way with this.

oh I understand that much, it was just way easier to do a one-for-one swap at the store than have to wait on a repair/replacement

I kept this on my computer from an old thread back in the days when I was a youngin' around these parts. I haven't tried this myself but I know others back in the day have used it with some success.

^^ Wow!! Great post.

You show the measurements needed for the project, and a great 3D drawing so they are very understandable.

How tight is that supposed to fit with regard to the angled boards?

Looks very good by the way. I've re-created yours in my 3D program hoping the measurements are fairly accurate. I only doubled the sub face and recessed the side walls for less volume and more mobility.

Can you rephrase your initial question? I'd like to make an attempt at answering but I'm having difficulty understanding what it is exactly you are asking.

Is the angle of the boards on the drawing flush with the body once it is in cubby? The 7.15 piece.

front speakers can take a little bit of work but with good spacers made from mdf or plastic rings you can open up a lot of great options by increasing diameter and depth. make sure to test fit with the front windows lowered to make sure u clear the glass inside the door.
