Do you mean the lid-cluster that would fit a 2004 with Nav? If so, yes I did look into it but I rejected the idea at the time because the motorized lid only closed or opened through a motor that needed to be connected to the nav system...and of course I don't have the Nav..

Plus, I don't know how well the "front lip catch" would work as the "front lip catch" in a Nav system is actually a controller board with Nav buttons and ***** on it..

The "front lip catch" is this piece here:

That's funny that people are retrofitting the '03 nav box.

Nice setups.

Well, the dimensions of the 7001 are 4.5" x 6.8" if the 7000 is the same then it'll plop right into a 2003 lid-cluster easy.. it will not fit into a 2004 without some cutting of the pocket..

Anyone know of a more affordable option for the 04 compartments?

The alpine looks good but it's a little more than I can afford!

I wonder how easy it'd be to cut the pocket of the 04.

So I guess the only options for us Non-Nav 2004 owners are the alpine screen, or getting the box cut to fit the Farenheit?

If you've ever taken apart your dash and looked at the 2004 Nav pocket, you'll see that it's all one molded unit with the lid..The only way to separate the pocket from the lid is to cut it off... and even then you'd have to cut off the lid mechanisn which is connected about halfway down the side of the pocket.. someone extremely l33t is going to have to figure out a way around that.

I don't think anyone will find an "easy" mod for the 2004 (unless of course you use a 2003 nav pocket). Or you could do what someone here did too: remove the pocket and lid all together and just stick a screen there...

The alpine screen =$650
-or-
2003 nav pocket= $92
7" farenheight 7001=$270
--------------------------------

=$362

enjoying video in your Z priceless

aren't the qualities between Fahrenheit's and Alpine's differ?
i've seen couple of fahrenheit screens for display and some alpines and it was not even close for comparison. alpine's were soo much better.

OK, for those of you who haven't taken apart your 2004 nav pocket and actually looked at it, I've decided to explain through pictures why it would be hard to modify a 2004 nav pocket with an LCD..

1. It's all one unit:

2. OK, can you cut?

3. OK, cutting won't be easy/impossible.. how about jamming a 7" screen in like the farenheight?

4. best alternative if you insist on keeping the 2004 nav pocket with minimal cutting?

leemik...thanks for the pics...you put everything into perspective.

Dayam it! This LCD screen installation is going to be more complicated than I thought!

Why'd nissan have to go screw with something that was already working fine! It's a conspiracy I tell you.... they don't want you to mod anything easily!

I think there were complaints that the door got stuck or was cheap feeling in the 2003.. prompting the change to a simplified mechanism...

Why don't you simply buy a 2003 Nav pocket? I know it's not a perfect solution but I think it's the best and cheapest one out there right now..I've done it and no one has notice that anything was out of place.. My friends think it's cool as chit..

Yeah I might have to consider that now. It's just I spent a year or so reading how easy it was for people to put certain screens in their nav pockets. Kinda of let down to find out that you'll have to take up a few more steps...but oh well...great car nonetheless.

If the total dimensions (screen and the trim stuff around the screen) are ~3.5 inches high and ~6 inches wide then fitting is a high probability..

I did some reasearch on this and it looks like you can install the motorized door without having the nav unit. Accoring to the service manual the motorized cluster lid connects to a controller called a motorized cluster lid amp. This controller connects directly to the battery, ACC, ignition, etc. So far I have the motorized cluster lid and I plan on ordering the controller this week. I plan on installing this with a Lilliput screen, hopefully this weekend!

I'll post the part numbers tonight when I get home. It was a pain to track down the controller...

Awesome!!! pics would be great with prices too!

I know the 2004 Nav lid part number is 68250-CD070 because I ordered it then read someone's post here about how they couldn't get the motor to work .. So I returned it..
