Default Converting factory NAV to play DVDs?

Any way of making the factory navigation play DVD movies? What would be involved? Anyone have any pics of their car with this MOD? Thanks.

Navtv.com has a nice device, but I'm saving up for the following box from AVElectronic.
http://www.avelectronic.com/Nav-TVTuner.htm

It has a built in TV Tuner and inputs for your other devices (ex. DVD Player, Camera, etc.)

The factory DVD nav player cannot be converted to play video DVD's.
If you use the nav-tv adapter, you will still need a separate DVD player to play back DVD video discs.

This is the response I got from AVElectronic.

We don't have any estimate time for plug&play version for 350Z because we are having problem locating the connector. All our Nissan and Infinity customers currently use the 4 wires cut version.

Not a big deal to get an additional DVD HU, it's more about converting the screen to playing DVDs... that way we can keep the perfect fit stock screen, but still play DVDs.

My response was a reply to this:

"The factory DVD nav player cannot be converted to play video DVD's.

I just checked out that site. That switch won't work directly with the stock nav system. The stock nav uses RGB video and this is a composite video switch. You would have to use an RGB to composite video adaptor from the nav HU to the switch, then a composite to RGB video adaptor from the switch back to the stock vid display. The end result would be seriously distorted.

You really should be looking for an RGB switch that can also internally convert composite video inputs to the RGB output.

Hope this helps,

I did see some pics of this unit from AVElectronics in a G35. I might be wrong, but I thought the G35 and Z used similar components. All the person told me I had to do was cut some wires but I'm no expert.

The unit sold on the AV Electronic site does the conversion to use the nav screen to watch dvd, tv and other sources. That is the whole purpose of the unit. This unit has been installed in several 350Z's with factory nav with success.

How much is that conversion kit? Cheaper than a new screen? which seem to be fairly inexpensive these days.

Default GEX-P7000TV

A lof of people have used the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV to get their DVD, TV, or game system video feed into their stock Nav screen. This is what I am planning to do when I get enough money. It comes with an FM Modulator built in also
