Alpine 7897 owners - I got a question
I really like the Alpine 7897 because of the self-hiding face. (I have a roadster).
I am wondering if anyone is running this unit without external amps. Can it drive 4 speakers well? (sensitivity of 90 - 92 db)
I would like to install just a head unit and speakers (no eperate amp). Some of the alpines go up to 27 Watts RPMS, but the retractable face Alpine (7897) is listed as on 20 Watts RMS.
Is anyone running this bad boy without amps? Please let me know.

i am and it sounds great. a lot cleaner and more power than the stock headunit. i have one for sale actually and its basically brand new and was purchased from a brick-and-mortar authorized alpine store and comes with everything.

I am running this same HU in my roadster. The self hiding face is really cool. I installed XM also. I have a set of infinity reference 6.5 components (92dB) in front and biaxials in rear and it does sound very nice and has some kick to it, BUT
It is not powerful enough to drive these speakers without distortion loud enough to listen to music comfortably while driving with the top down. IMHO.
I am going to install a 75-90W X 4 amp soon which should solve the problem nicely. I am also installing an Infinity BassLink this weekend in the stock sub location.
If I were you I would install it and see if you can hear it to your satisfaction. You can always install an amp later.
