350z navigation install
I bought my 350z without the factory Nav system and I am looking to get an aftermarket systems installed.
I am going to get the Farenheit T-7001MHR 7" screen for the nav pocket and install the Pioneer AVIC90DVD in one of the small compartments behind the seats. I believe this will be the best/economical setup as far as getting an aftermarket Nav system since I will be keeping the factory CD player. The only problem I have is that I have never installed a navigation system before. Has anybody installed a Nav system in a similar manner. If so could you please instruct me on how to do so? I think a Nav install description posted on this forum could help a lot of the members.
Thanks

I am actually thinking of replacing the whole head unit since I think with all the install costs, monitor, fm modulator, and all the trouble, I should just get the pioneer navsys910 system and put it all in the front, then at least I will have the touch screen, dvd, and navigation. And I can probably do the install myself if I really wanted to,rather than having to pay for someone else to do it. But the only thing I am concerned about is the easy access to a 2000 dollar stereo system in my roadster. Whats your opinion on that one.
But in any case, instead of the farenheit monitor, you should get a touch screen. It will be worth it for the navigation sys.

Jrofman,
The pioneer Nav910sys sounds like a great option but what are you going to do with the empty space where your old nav sys used to be? I think using the area where the factory Nav should be would be the best spot to install a custom screen. As far as a touch screen, which would actually fit just like the Farenheit?

I have the enthusiast roadster, so no navigation system. I had thought really hard about keeping the stock radio, but I realized not only its it just as expensive to add an aftermarket navigation with a touch screen and place the navigation LCD in the factory area, but you end up with a radio with an FM modulator. Even though I live in LA and I am worried about my install, i think its just better to go with an entirely new system, including replacing the radio. I'd get better sound, better video, and won't have to deal with an FM modulator and too many switches. As it is I am going to install the navigation right under the DVD player/LCD screen just to save myself the trouble of a complex install.
jrofman,
I think you are right, Nav-sys910dvd from Pioneer would be the best solution. Are you going to do the install yourself? If so, what is involved? I am wondering if it would be difficult for someone to install such a system without ever having done it before. I'm thinking about installing it myself. Can you help?
Thanks

I don't think it would be that hard. The most complex part will be taking off the front panel. I haven't decided what I will do with the GPS antenna, but I may run it up the edge of the front window on the passenger side if I end up doing it. Oh BTW, if you are looking for the best price, etronics seems to be the best place. I just wish there was a ten percent off coupon. Maybe during the holidays.

Thank you all for your input. I just sent a PM to rouxeny and hopefully he will be able to direct me as to where the wires need to be hooked up. Taking the dash apart and setting up the screen/nav system should not be hard at all. The difficult part would be connecting the wires correctly. I firmly believe that with detailed instructions on where all those dam wires should be hooked up would enable most newbies to succesfully install such a system. Let's hope we can get some info so all us can save some $$$$ by installed that stuff by ourselves.
Rouxeny,
I guess you are right about not attempting the install myself. I have never done such an install and will be lost without knowing exactly where each wire gets connected. Might let a professional do it if I can't get any instructions. I am not going to venture into trial and error....might damage the Z's electrical system.
Anyway, thanks for your reply.
