SCYTEK NightVision 6000 has picture taking capacity and will send pics to handheld transceiver.

once they find your car, it's probably been stripped... or crashed... or involved in a crime....
but I'd get lojack just the same coz it's cool...

I think the video picture taking is cool. But im not sure about the brand, im sticking to my Viper alarm. Now if only someone out there had a stand alone picture taker unit that links to the alarm, that would be cool.

I have the Clifford RS3.5 Love it. Didn't want the remote start cuz it requires a key (with the transmitter) to be installed in the bypass box. So anyone could hot wire it and take off (in theory). Not only that, but I leave my car in gear alot when I park it, so starting it gear would make the car skip across the parking lot until it hit something or the battery died. The built in turbo timer is cool. Leave her running and take the keys. Didn't pay the high price ($500) yall are talking about. Paid $207 for the unit and paid my cousin (installer) to throw it in....Cost me $250 + a steak (haha).
Alarm?
That only scares off the kids looking for a joy ride. A set of blinking LEDs will do the same. The Z has a nice flashing LED on the dash that blinks pretty well already - I don't know if that was stock or not on mine.
Nobody bothers even to look in the direction of an alarm horn sounding day or night. The 350Z comes with a pretty nice theft prevention system in that stuid key fob. I like the paging alarms but for the 95% of people that aren't armed and don't know what to do with a pair of stoned out of their mind car thieves what are going to do when your alarm system goes off?
In most states you're not allowed to kill someone over property theft.
Kids trying to joy ride your car will be defeated if you remove the key from the ignition and lock the doors. Professionals are going to silence your alarm or just drive it off alarm sounding or not even before you can respond in most cases ... and even if you do what the gosh darn heck are you going to do shoot them? They're more than likely going to shoot back.

Yeah must be nice to live in Texas
here in Cali they have so many dam restricktion on everything. I wish this state was more like TX. But in my home, i dont call 911 ether, i call SW44. 911 just puts you on hold SW44 gives amedate responds
I keep my Z garage too, with servalince camera

I will be going with the Viper 791X with the GPS option. I like the look of the clifford better, slightly smaller and sweeter looking remote, but the GPS sold me on it. You can set it to send you messages if they track someone driving your vehicle above a certian speed (great for valets or if family likes to borrow your car) and the celluar disable or door unlock is an awesome feature. I like lojack, but with the discount I get the Viper and GPS is a cheaper and equally effective option with the added bonus of an alarm to scare off the wannabe thieves.

For you guys that installed the alarm yourselves - how difficult was it? I was able to wire up my entire audio system including running new speaker wires and the amps - think i'd have a problem?

By all means, I don't mean to sound harsh, but for the life of me, I can NEVER figure out why everyone these days wants to be a gun toting tough guy. In a theft-in-progress, what are the chances that the thief too, would be carrying a 357 or any other firearm? Pretty damn high, I think. So your chances of you being the one on the receiving end are just as high as the thief's. For what? A car? Now if I were protecting my life or that of anyone else, any and all available force should and WILL be used, but why do so for a mere object, especially one that can be replaced swiftly and for practically no cost? I can just make no sense of it.
Actually, most thieves are pretty savvy and know that if they carry a firearm, especially a loaded firearm the minimium sentences and odds of serious jail time go up significantly compared to breaking and entering.
