Default What to look for when buying a sub

I am looking to buy a brand new sub sold locally from a private party. Since I don't have a system, any ideas what I should look for. Its a JL10w3v2 (4ohm)

I can bring my nephew who has a system but I really don't know what he has amp wise.

Tnt

Look for damage to the rubber edge, it should flex uniformly. also push on the CENTER and make sure there is movement of the plunger (if there is none it means the speaker is blown) any other damage should be obvious (ie tears in the cone, etc) hope this helps

The sub visually looks fine. My nephew has this amp which I think I want to test the sub while its out of the box. Would it work since the JL sub is a SVC with 4 ohm? Just making sure.
