Used Amp Wiring Kit
Is it safe to buy a used amp wiring kit, or is that something that I should stay away from? I'm on a budget and I have the chance to buy one cheap, but if it's safer to buy new I can sit on my hands and wait for a bit. If it is safe to buy, what are some things to look out for?
I would go with new personally. Plastic fuse holders can get brittle over time, the wire can loose some flexability, and length issues which on a Z you probably wouldnt run into. Otherwise what Big said.
You might check the local Best Buy, they recently dropped Rockford and if they still have any amp kits they are probably a fraction of what they use to run. I think the last 8ga kit we had I sold last week for $16 and it was normally around $70.

Like he ^ said new kits are so cheap why risk it but imo you should buy better quality wire it makes for an easier install and will keep away sq issues that will drive you crazy trying to figure out

Thanks for the input, I'll run into Best Buy tomorrow morning and see what they have. But I haven't had much luck finding an inexpensive kit, mostly in the $70-$80 range. And if that's what I need to pay to make it worth it, then I'll wait. I thought I had the bulk the the cost taken care of after I got the subs and amp, but now wiring and then finding reasonable install price are taking a bigger chunk of change then I expected. Do you guys think I could wire this up myself after reading some "how-to's"? I've never done it before.

Its not really that hard, I havent seen the walk through but if there is one it should be real easy. Getting the wire through the firewall and grounding are where most first timers fail the most. Least from what I have seen. Well that and properly adjusting amps.
Where were you planning on mounting the amp?
What kind of amp and subs?

Price is kind of irrelevant if its a good brand. Streetwires, Stinger, Rockford, Monster, JL, Kicker, I cant think of any others off the top of my head. All of those brands have at least 60% markup. Off brand or just cheap usually have crap rca's, cheap fuse holders, or the wire is the size it states it is such as 4 ga being 6ga with extra insulation.
http://www.knukonceptz.com/ has quality wires/kit for good prices. Just don't go for the KLM wire kits, those power wire are hard as hell to work with. The others are fine.

By the prices you listed, and the fact that I can find good deals easily around the net that are still quite a bit more expensive that what you listed for quality kits, it sounds like you're referring to cheap gear.
Of course, if you have some local hook up, that's a whole other deal that has no bearing on street prices and you shouldn't be posting in threads unless you're going to back it up with links.
