Default How to add speaker depth in doors..

Well, after many sets of speakers, i decided to go back and try the alpines I had originally bought (they are the Type-R's). The problem with them was the lack of space b/c of the window. So, after pulling the door apart and analyzing it for a while, I figured out how to push the window back farther in the door. I now have a full 3" behind the speaker (that is including the stock speaker used as a spacer). Here is how:

Remove door panel
There are 2 nuts holding the sliders in place. The bolts in the center of these nuts have a slit in the top. Loosen the nut (it is just a lock nut), and turn the bolt with a screwdriver counter clockwise. This will push the window back into the door.
Tighten lock nut, reassemble door!

I only had to do this to the driver side door as the passenger side already had enough space. That's when I figured out that it must have to be an adjustment to get the additional space. My pain, is your gain...

It couldn't be easier, and best of all, it is absolutely free!

Enjoy!

Wouldn't this throw the angle of the window off? What I mean is, by moving the bottom of the track away from the center of the car, it would angle the window in more when the window's raised since the pivot point would be at the top of the door (which can't be changed). I hope that this doesn't cause any leaks or anything like that due to changing the pressure on the seals. Maybe I'm wrong...

well, I thought about that at first, and then realized that since the passenger side was already like that, and hadn't caused any problems, then it must not be wrong..

I don't have any pics (my digi cam was dead at the time), but if you give me a pic of the door, I can show you which two bolts it is.

I think I know the two you're talking about, sort of in the middle of the screw on panel and with the threads sticking out?
