I have the older 5900 Viper which to me has been the best one as of yet. Even better then the newer ones. I have been looking into the New module called Smart Start by viper that hooks into the newer viper models and allows you to have total control of your alarm system through one of the cell phones in the title.

Being that i have the older version they now make a module called the VSS3000 which is just remote start, or the VSS5000 which is everything being controlled.

I am wondering if anyone thus far on the forum has this set up as of yet, and if it is worth it.

Reading into it more i am seeing that there is some type of monthly or yearly fee, but i am not 100% on that. Can anyone shed some light???

I would love to get this for traveling purposes. Like when i go to Greece for 3 months out of the year and no one is home to crank up my Z i can do so through a smart phone.

 

I had it install with on mine over this summer. The first year is free after that its 30 each yr. You can control with ur laptop as well so its perfect when you are in Greece.

I to have been planing on getting the viper smart start but compustar has one aswell "drone mobile", now I'm not sure which one to get because they are both really good alarms.

And I think the drone is wayyyy better by compustar. They have 1 free first year, TRUE gps tracking and **** tons of other features the smartstart doesnt have yet. The smartstart doesnt have true gps tracking its more of a ping effect, and they don't have a bunch of features that the drone has YET. They will get them eventually, their plan is to release monthly or bi-monthly updates adding a new feature everytime over the next two years. Sucks for customers because they are missing out but business wise its an amazing plan IMO

 

I'll go with viper since i had a compu star alarm. It was garbage!

 

Hey doc, don't know if this helps but I've had the Viper 5902 for about a month or so now. There is a feature in the alarm system's remote itself that allows you to do either a timed start every 1-24 hours for 1-15 minutes run time (thru the remote's program-I don't know if this range can be raised by the bitwriter to a custom time), a remote start if the ambient temperature reaches a certain minimum or maximum level, and a remote start when it detects the car battery's voltage level reaches a certain level (9.5 to 12.5 - this level change can only be altered by the bitwriter).

 

Yeah i do not believe on the older models they have it. I have the 5900 model.

I believe it has a turbo Timer. I'll have to look Into the other programming options.

 

Put quite a few smart starts in various cars. Each upgrade I have done is to a newer viper unit i.e. 5101 5301 5701 5901 etc. I believe these will only work for newer model units. Don't want to burst your bubble but I do not think your 5900 will work with the addon smartstart unit.

 

I see, but the vss3000/5000 is made for older models that are not compatable. So they tell me.

Whoa....i dont want the play by play voice though. I can see me being in greece and forgetting the time difference and it be like 3 am. My neighbors hear " CAUTION, STAND BACK. VEHICLE IS NOW STARTING"....lol!!! They would think i am launching a rocket or something.
