Default Subwoofer Help

After hearing my friends W3 12inch sub in his BMW 335 I decided to get a JL w3 for my Z. I can honestly say that the bass the w3 produces is deep and clean. Anyway, I ordered the 10inch sealed box from zen enclosures and bought my self a 10inch w3. The amp I am using is a Hifonics Nemesis NX700D mono Channel.
Specs
250 x 4ohm rms
400 x 2ohm rms
700 x 1ohm rms
http://www.maxxsonics.net/manuals/hi...ps_20thAni.pdf

My sub is wired to 4ohms so i assume its getting 250rms. Im also using an Alpine headunit with a sub out - i forget the model but it was the best single din in 2008.

My problem is that the sub sounds like crap in my car. Its no where near what i heard in the BMW. Its not deep or clean. Also the BMW is using a low pass converter with the stock headunit, i wonder if this is the reason the bass sounds deeper/better. Could it be my amp? Could it be the difference from 10inch to 12inch? Anyone here have any solutions as to what im doing wrong? Both boxes are sealed. Thanks in advance.

yes, his being 12 could make a lil bit of a difference lol. also, did you set the amp settings right for the sub? Also, isnt the sub rms rating at 350? Either way your not going to be able to get a 12 in sub in the Z with out fiber glass or major space taking. i have 2 10"ws6( i think it called that but it the one up from yours) And it still has the BUMP but not like what the 12" does with the lows. Im still trying to figure out how tune my JL 500/1 amp. So many ***** to turn lol.

hellsoldiers could be right about messing with your amp settings. And Is the w3 a dual voice coil sub? If it is wire for 2ohms and try again. You might be underpowered at this point. Check your positive and negative wires going to the sub. Actually sometimes reversing the wires helps depending on how the sub reacts to your cars acoustics and how the sub is mounted in your enclosure. If your sub is inverted(cone facing into the box, magnet visible)definitely try reversing polarities. Check crossover points and check gain settings. If your gain is set too high your bass will get muddy at high volumes. Just a few suggestions but I would have to see the way it is wired to go further into it.

thanks for the replies guys. I tried what you suggested turning down the gains it did help, i was able to get cleaner bass. But i realized the amp is going into protect mode because its under powering the sub. I tested my buddies rockford 1000bd and it sounds awesome, but not as low as the 12. Time to buy a new amp. Thanks again guys.
