Default Sealed box sub enclosure for stock Blose location design question

If you were to put one in said location would there be a difference in sub performance between sealing up the hole behind the driver's seat, ala the SRQ Customs Box, or putting the factory speaker grille back on and having a place for the air to be released back into the cabin?

i'd say it would be better letting the air out from the factory grill instead of completely sealing the area out..reason being is that i had a sound system in my gtp with subs in a sealed box..i was able to either leave the middle arm rest down in the back seat which connected to the trunk or leave it closed..It sounded unbelievably better open allowing the sound to travel out into the cabin..

wicked C.A.S., end of story, they make a prefab or fully loade w a JL 12.

There is ZERO feasible reason to waste as much time as wil be necessary to design your own box for that area.. thier box is a couple hundo. ive done alot of work in that area, and its tempting but still a huge pain.

Not to mention that thier box is SOLID and has all necc mounting tabs.. just my 2 cents.. the budget way will never yeaild good results.. i can fab all this stuff too, but its still a better idea to pay them to do it and just bolt it in. Life is short, get it built and get on the road and out of the garage.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your input. Always glad to hear another's opinion.

The wicked CAS box is exactly the same as the SRQ except for the building materials. Is fiberglass > MDF? Sure. But $100 is a hell of a lot more reasonable to me than $300 given my small budget :-P They both fit up to the factory mounting bracket behind the seat and both cover the opening.

I just can't justify $300 for a speaker box when all I want is some louder sound with more range on a small budget. And if not covering the opening will yield better response from the subwoofer then I can also justify about $50 in materials and a couple hours to glue and screw. Would I spend and extra $50 to save the labor? Yup. An extra $280? Nope.

Would I much rather prefer the wicked CAS? Hells yeah! Is the only place to get it from their website? I doubt they are heavily undercut on teir own product anywhere on the web.

Any subwoofer aficionados out there with insight about closed vs. open behind the seat?
