well i work with car audio for a living and the best option out of what you have picked out is the alpine type x. You just need a pretty big amp to go along with it. Suggestion is the pdx 1x1000 amp that alpine makes. It is meant for that sub. The other options you have up there are sub par compared to the alpine. Polk Audio use to make decent stuff but has since fallen off and I honestly do not trust the specs of the RE sub you have up. I personally have run in the past an alpine type X but it was a 12 and another installer of mine runs a 10. The sound is phenomonal. Any questions you can PM me and ill more than gladly help you out

How many RE Audio subs have you held in your hands and actually installed?

Or, how many have you actually owned?

I've owned:
RE8
SR10
SE10, SE12, SE15
SX12, SX15, SX18
MX12

I've also owned the typical Alpine E, S, R and X... But didn't keep them for long...

After working as a professional installer for 10 years, and having worked for an Alpine dealer and an RE Audio Dealer I'm going to have to disagree with you.

The RE Audio sub is far superior to the Alpine sub. The only advantage of the Alpine sub is the brand name recognition. Other than that, the RE is far superior!

You said you don't trust the specs of the RE Subs, I can personally say that I've run more than double the rated power on more than a few of their subs and have never had issues. I run a pair of their older SR series subs in my 350z, they are rated for 250 watts rms each. I'm running 1000 watts RMS, all day long, and have been for 2 years no issues!

I've sold RE Audio to abusive high school kids along with monster amps and the only RE Sub I've even seen fail was one that the kid dropped on a concrete floor.

The RE Subs are stupid loud, and sound great AND are priced GREAT! If you don't care for paying extra for a brand name, you'll be more than happy with the RE Subs!

Now, back on to the original poster's question:

-The single Sxx 12" sub will pound your brain out, it's a loud, beast of a sub!

-The Sxx sub NEEDS 1000 watts RMS minimum. Even better if you can supply it with 1500 watts rms.

-The Sxx sub also NEEDS a ported box, it is not recommended to be used in a sealed box. Ported box means a bigger box. Keep that in mind, that the Z is not too friendly to big boxes unless you (or your installer) has some good custom box building subs.

-For the reasons I mentioned above, in a 350Z I would actually recommend you go with the SEx sub instead of the SXx.... The SEx sub needs a bit less power (600 watts rms) and can also be used in a smaller sealed box. The SEx has about 85% of the output that the SXx does, but does it with less power (save money on amp).

Or, if you want to go ***** to the wall do a Single SXx12 ported, that will pound like crazy, or even do a pair of SEx10s in a sealed box, that would be a very loud sound quality setup.

If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a PM.

al@phatrides, if you were to pick two 10" RE subs to put in a Zenclosure (not bit with little air space), which model would you do to sound good? Loud when needs to be but just something nice to listen to on the weekends?

For a less expensive low power setup:
-2x SR10
-Amplifier MINIMUM 600 watts rms, 600-1000 watts rms would be a nice practical range with 1000 getting up on the high side.

^That is the exact setup that I run in my car, however I run 1000 watts rms and my box is small, 0.35 cu ft after sub displacement. That Zen box is 0.75 cu ft per sub, sub displaces 0.12 cu ft so you're left with 0.63 cu ft per sub which is larger than RE's "optimal" but still fine. As your sealed box size goes up, your power handling goes down, that is why above I said 1000 watts rms being on the high side, because this is a larger box.

With this setup on the lower power end of the scale (600wrms) you can get away with 4 gauge power wire. If you start nearing the 1000wrms area I would highly recommend 0 gauge power wire.

The SR setup is plenty loud for me. A lot of people are impressed by what two small 10s in a sealed box can do for output.

For a higher power, higher output setup (more $$):
-2x SE10
-Amplifier MINIMUM 1200 watts rms. I would recommend around 1500, but as high as 1800 if you're smart with the volume ****.

This setup would get you a decent amount more output than the SRs.

With this setup you would definitely want to go with 0 gauge power wire. The SE sub displaces more air inside the sub box, so you're closer to the recommended spec, but still a bit above it (just like the SRs)

Some things to note for both subs:
-Voice Coil configuration (D2 or D4) will depend on your amp choice
-Both subs cutout holes are larger than the Zenclosure box. You would have to order the box with a larger cutout, or modify the box a bit once you got it. Not a big deal.

Any other questions PM me, in case I don't see this thread again.

i had a alpine type-X for awhile.. the box i had was terrible.. it ended up $hitting the bed on me (i think due to the small sealed box it was in) i actually still have it.. i think the carbon fiber face detached from the internal pieces.. PM if u know of a fix for this..

but now i have a JL Audio W7 in an amazing box that basically fills my entire trunk.. f*cking amazing

either 1 or 2 of the drivers is fine as long as they are getting at least .75 net each

the get very loud, but better sound great doing it, very rich sounding.
fairly flat response

one of my favorite drivers sealed in that price range

RE is not what it was a while back

Yah it is... What was the last RE product you played with that made you come to that conclusion?

Sure RE has an entry level line, just like every company. But ALL of their products are top notch for their intended market.

you will like them very much

you grabbed 2 each in dvc 4 ohm ?

as long as they have .75 to 1 cu net sealed and you can feed rms power you will be very happy

I just put 1 10" in a zen under strut for a customers car 350z with a sundownn sax 125.2 bridged 450 watts @ 2 ohms , sounded very rich and got very loud , for 1 10" off 450 watts , he was very pleased

See, the RE MT is their one sub that isn't designed for the general market and is meant specifically as a custom build, to order sub for SPL only. Not a good representation of RE for the general consumer market.

Nobody on this forum who is asking "help me decide between these subs for my daily driver" is going to be buying an MT.

I plan to install two 10-inch subwoofers, I think that this will be quite normal. I found them by accident when I was looking for internal enclosures for my computer see this . I really love the clean and loud sound of music, I hope that everything will work out when I do it and I will write it.

Lets add 3 more years to that

Thinking of installing a 8 inch or a 10 where the bose sub would be. I have a enthusiast so i dont have the panel so i would have to cut and make a mesh grill. Im very paranoid of people stealing sound systems rather have it not shown in my trunk.

There's tons of threads on retrofitting subs to the stock Bose location on here. Just search.

I just removed my Infinity powered sub from the enclosure with the Bose sub panel and sold it to a friend for non-Z application. Very easy/simple install.... shove it in, strap it down (optional as it fits snugly but I didn't want 40lbs of electronics slamming me in the back of the head in a bad event), run RCA and power, done.
