Need mono amp advice...
I just ordered my zenclosure 10" sub box and a RE 10" subwoofer.I need an amp that is mono,2ohm stable and does 500-600 watts rms.I am leaning towards an Alpine MRP-500,any other suggestions that are budget priced?
always good to buy a amp a little bigger then you need and adjust gains accordingly. you don't want a clipped signal.
all i'm gonna say is PEOPLE.... your on the internet now so use it to your advantage. there is much better and cheaper equipment then all the mainstream brands.
i feel like a broken record saying it in every thread. do some research.

Wow,all I did was ask a question,I am not a car audio newbie, just wanted to see what the opinions was out there since I havent bought a new amp in a few years...
Appreciate the non-help.

Mr. Won means well HK. There is a ton of research to do and he just does not want to give you answers on a silver platter. I will try to help you.
The MRP series of amps are ok. I use a PDX 1.600 on my sub. I found the amp on craigslist for $100. Cheaper than a new MRP 500 and is a higher quality amp. With that being said there is a ton of non-mainstream brands out there that cost less and have the same or better quality than Alpine, Pioneer, Kicker, etc........
Google audioque, elemental designs, sundown, digital designs, and there is more. A lot more. Once you start digging you will run into other brands that might catch your attention. Google again, rinse, repeat. Get it?
I just got back into car audio about a year ago and most of the legendary names like Orion and Phoenix Gold have either disappeared or make cheap pewp.
Seems like a lot of work for just a hunk of metal? It kind of is a lot, but in the long run you will be happier with your decision knowing you researched until your eyes were bleading.
Check out the Audioque AQ1200D amp. $70 more than an MRP 500 and stable down to 1ohm pumping 1200watts rms.
Let us know the specs of the RE sub you plan to use and we can make your decision even harder with more choices and suggestions.

you are right though. i have lined this stuff out in a few other threads and not to mention the millions online who have asked the same questions. most people just want to be spoon fed all there info. also on such little amount of power i'm sure most amps will suit your needs. choose a good brand and go for whatever you like the looks/price/function best.
like i also said in my first post, pick something that does a little more power then you need. this way you can set the gains correct and have no clipping. also run them at a higher ohm load so they are more efficient.
Thank you gvalakh,I appreciate the work and kind response.I will do some digging on those brands,Sundown is very familiar...but you have given me some more stuff to look into.
I didnt mean to place you on ignore.I dont have time to play kid games, when you want to stop making snide remarks, maybe you can get out of timeout little man.

I'm not sure about Soundstream these days. I think they went the way of cheaper and not so great...........I know they used to produce some killer equipment that I dreamed about when I was 18. Have not seen any mention of Soundstream in any car audio forums since I have gotten back into it.
Which leads me to my next suggestion. Read some fresh posts on car audio forums and check out the classifieds. Just to keep fresh on what people are using these days and the hot sellers give you a clue of today's car audio landscape.

Thanks for your help man I really do appreciate the tips and advice.
for the money hard to do better than sundown
sundown sax 125.2 if you want a 2 ch
sundown sax 100.4 if you want a 4 ch
sundown saz 1500 if you want a mono
IMO
if your on a tight budget than go
audiopipe ap-3002 for 2 ch
audiopipe ap-15001 for mono
audiopipe ap-30001 for large mono
audiopipe ap-2004 for 4 ch

Well my RE sub arrived today, waiting on my box to arrive next...
I dont need as much power as those mono amps are dropping,I am using a single sub with
600 wtts rms,I need something in the 700-900 watt rms range...
I may need to drop a bit more bread than intended,I am still searching around...I want to
stick with a mono class D amp as well.

Get another and use the aq1200... I had that same exact setup and it was awesome... but I had the older model SE's... before they started making stuff in china, heard they kinda went downhill.
Just gunna say we put that amp in my friends truck with a alpine type R12... Bumps it hard as hell sounds clean and that type R peaks at i wanna say over 1000W.. the amp isnt even turned up all the way and easily is more then enough power to even blow the sub
if the sub is dual 4 and you are only using 1
your gonna see a final load of 2 ohms
the saz 1500 sundown makes 800 watts at 2 ohm
the audiopipe ap1500 makes 950 at 2 ohms
the aq1200 is good as well , but i would run the sundown over the audioque
i have installed plenty of all 3
but whatever you like
with voltage drop & box rise you won't see rated power anyway , unless you do the big 3 in 0 awg, and use 0 awg power & ground , then you will see closer to rated
always better to have extra power than not enough as you can gain the amps mildly and not have a clipped signal on full tilt

any amp that is stable down to 1 ohm , is gonna run at a higher impeidance
so running 2 ohm or 4 ohm is only making the amp work LESS hard
and it is also easier on your electrical
also by having more power on tap , than down the road if you want to upgrade your sub and or run 2 subs , than the amp you buy now will do the job
