that is pretty cool! seems like you could take the original pad and insert a block of wood inside of it to form the knee pad around....that way you could use the existing piece and just mass produce the wood insert with a piece of fabric to re-wrap everything in....

just brainstorming...I've never taken the knee pad piece apart before so I could be wrong.

mine didn't have a knee pad originally, so i just built whatever, but I got a request to build one for my old man, so I am going to be building one that replaces the knee pad this weekend, for you guys that already have them.

If you make these, how much will you want for them? Possibility of making one for the passenger side as well? My Z does not have the factory pads.

Sick, also OP since you are handy with the dremel, you should go back over your 4300 install and work that magic on the inner plastic of your DD dash kit so you can slide the unit back further so it sits flush. I believe there's a DIY floating around an another site, I'll see if I can find it.

I'm aware, but I got something way bigger in the works for the center console. Just you wait.

let me see how it goes this weekend. Every one of them is going to have to be different, depending on phone model and wether or not you already have a knee pad. (built my original one to fit 3GS and 4w/case) then we gotta talk about the cord. I dremel and mount it in the bottom. So either you send one or I go buy one, if all you need is a white iphone, thats easy cuz I already have it, then you just glue yours in, but say you have a special cord for your stereo, your gunna have to send it to me. then we gotta talk about what case you have one your phone.

there's a lot of variables, thats why no ones made anything like this. but I like making custom **** so bring it on.

thinking under $100

Just make them for the iPhone. Forget everyone else.

that's what I plan on doing for the first dozen, 1. cause a lot of people have them, 2. cause thats what most stereo's accept, 3. casue thats what i have. but I have friends with phones(android etc) so don't count yourself out if you don't have iphone i can still most likely make it happen.

you will cover a majority of the market with iPhone only.

w00t. I'd just want one for my iphone 4 w/ no case...don't even need a plug for it. And an iphone slot for the passenger side as well just for symmetry and my fiancee can use it when she rolls with haha.

Will it require cutting into the piece behind it?

brings up a good point. Will an iphone 4 with a smallish case fit?

Yes I can do both no case and I'm also doing the "incase" brand Ip4 hard case. Fairly thin, seems to be inline thickness wise with the majority of the covers I see out there.

I will absolutely custom tailor each one individually to what you need, so don't be afraid to ask.

I'll address this along with your first question about cutting, along with everything from pricing to options & models on Monday. Im gunna finish my mount for the 06+ tomorrow morning.

Default Get'em while their hot!

I think I'm ready to start taking orders on these mo fo's ! ! !
sorry it so long had to take some different approaches with the 06+ ones, looks like a simple flat piece but it ended up being quite complex shape to fit

Let me start with saying I have only developed models for the 03's with no knee pad, and the 06+ with pad & stitching. If you want one in a 04-05 with pad, cause I suspect they are different, send me your's and I will make it happen.

What Cords Are You Using? - So I have them problem in that I do know how to fit each of your aftermarket cables. If all you use is a simple ipod/usb cable, like the pioneer's do, I'll prolly just make it for apple white cord that we all have 10 of laying around. On the other hand this area will be exposed (see pic) so say you have a custom plug it wont take but 10 mins and a dremel + glue to fit any cord you have, wether it be the kenwood, alpine, ect...(would recommend getting it uncovered then)

What Size Case you Rockin? My prototype was built for a iphone4 w/ the incase brand hard cover, im sure you are all familiar with this brand, if you don't have it compare it with a friends or at the store. No Cover is just as easy!!! if not send me pictures with a ruler next to it, and i'll make it happen. Also note that my ip4 w/ case also fits my 3Gs w/ no case all the same (see pics)

Pricing (Mods Please be Nice!! I promise to Vendor up when/if I make it. Still just a good 'ol boy making parts for others, at least im a pm.)

Uncovered - be easy to di-noc wrap or have someone local, or diy - thinkin 65

Vinyl Wrapped no stitch - 75

Vinyl with Stitch, (OEM MATCH), is going to look exactly like the oem with the center pad and stitching (your choice of color) - 90 . . . will get pic

all prices shipped. (US) no cord, feel free to pm. Let me get some orders together before I give time schedule.

Some More Picures - oh & I promise to get up pic of it covered and stitched in black to match oem. (haven't seen dad/nismo since I installed it)

I also wont drill holes all the way through.

In case you were wondering how to remove your knee pad, well not as easily as I thought.
I just used a spot weld drill bit and cut around each one, that way it can me returned to oem. You could prolly use a soldering iron or something to melt the plastic off.
