Bose question
I was just curious. How many AMPs are actually in the bose system? Ive heard people say there are a few? I know there is one main amp but ive heard people say theres amps for each speaker??!?
Any info on this would be nice
(or a diagram of the bose system would even be better!)

Nah, the speakers are not individually amplified, but I htink some corvettes have Bose systems that do have an amp at eah speaker.
For the Z the Bose system has 1 amp for the front and rear speakers (4 channels), and 1 amp for the sub. Both amps are not very powerful, but if you want a good laugh, look at the sub amp... its is a total joke.

The Bose amps are low voltage amps. To get power you need current and voltage. Power = Current * Voltage.
Decent amps use expensive DC to DC converters to get enough voltage to output decent power. Bose (to save money and suck more) uses only the 12 or so volts the car already has.
This saves them money by getting rid of the DC-DC converters. To make their power specs they must therefore use higher current. To get more current without increasing the voltage they use non-standard low impedance speakers.
That is one reason the Bose amps look so puny. They got rid of a bunch of parts by using low impedance speakers instead of stepping up the voltage.
This would actually be a clever trick for a low end car where every penny counts. It is unforgivable in my $40K Roadster.
As to why the EQ sucks and why they use such crappy speakers, you would have to ask Bose.

AndyB,
I understand the 4 channel amp is next to the spare tire, but can you tell me where is the sub amp ?
Also, do you mean the Bose amp won't work with, say a Pioneer speakers ? I was thinking about just replacing the front speakers since I don't listen to music very loud (all I want is clarity and definition) ?
