Need help on Footwell lighting
I've been trying to find different ways to wire my led light to my z.
But i'm trying to find a way to install it by the driver side kick panel.
I try doing base on this:
i just hooked up 2 each 15" varad led tubes blue
tiestrapped under dash illuminating the entire footwell area in blue
can't see the led's just the accent lighting they produce
installed a switch under the dash for on and off
ran 12v power lead from fuse box by driver left kick panel to switch
ground from switch to left of steering column
hook up + wire leads from led's to load pin on switch
hooked up - wire leads from led's to ground swith pin
total time for install 1 hour taking your time

The other things I can think of are bad neons, bad switch/switch wired wrong, bad ground
I did this in my civic back in the day (not ment as an insult) and I just wired it directly into the 12v power thing (cigarette lighter). I tapped into both wires and ran that to the leds with a switch in the middle

Oh the led are still good, but i havent checked if the power that i ran that wire to even had power coming out of it. But ill have to check on that.
Think taping it to the stereo is better?

I'm by no means an electrical expert but I think that might rob power from your stereo, somebody else may be able to chime in on that.
There is always the power port under the passanger dash that you can tap into

yeah your right on that, yeah so maybe the best way is to install through the fuses box huh?
heres what you do take your key and use it to pop out your map light figure out that wire is the negative and positive tap into them run wires down to the foot well and hook up ur led's that way they will now come on when the door opens your welcome. i know this works because ive done it my last project was 50+ led's on a board in the trunk so i can see when i open it at night

Here's one of the LED strips I used:

Here's the wiring from the overhead console:

Passenger footwell (wiring to other side not finished yet):

Driver's side (looks brighter from the reflections off the pedals):
The only way you will fix this problem correctly is with a volt meter. You need to find an ignition wire (only hot when key is in the "ON" position). If you don't have a volt meter then I would look in to tapping the auxiliary power outlet as mentioned above. It should be fairly easy to get to and it has 15A of switched power.
Connecting the LEDs to the power wire of the stereo will NOT steal power from the stereo. There is ample current supply on that wire, but I wouldn't do it simply for the fact I wouldn't want to pull the radio out and have to figure out exactly which wire is the correct wire (on an aftermarket radio it would be the red wire, but on the OEM radio there is no guarantee the wire is red). The auxiliary plug is easy - it only has two wires going to it!
