Default Insulating Stock Sub Box Area

Would this improve the performance of the factory Bose subwoofer?

It certainly wouldn't hurt . When you say insulating , what material did you have in mind ? I would go with Sound deadening sheets (Fatmat , Dynamat etc. )

While it might help I still think the main problem with the stock sub is the stupid microphone feedback system.

Microphone feedback?

And, yeah, something like Dynamat. I am on a very tight budget. Was flirting with the idea of hollowing out front speaker grills (and covering with that cloth mesh), and doing the same to the tweeters on the door-triangle things. Then perhaps Dynamat/etc. the Subwoofer enclosure.

I swear this is half the reason the sub sounds so bad. The system is constantly adjusting the bass and general volume level - the result is a mess! I noticed it right way... sometimes the stereo sounds OK (still not "good" but OK in a factory radio kind of way), however other times I swear my nightstand alarm clock has better bass response.
