Default Rear view camera

Hey I just got a new rear view camera for my Z and I was wiring it. My power wire isn't long enough to get to the head unit. I was going to power it off the reverse lights but I looked at the wiring guide and it said Reverse Light - Orange or Lt. Green - (+) - Driver Kick, Harness to rear. But the reverse signal wire is that light green wire. Any help would be great thanks.

Make the connection at the back of the car where the backup lights connect to the harness. Tap into the wire (non ground) that goes to the backup lights.

Do you know what color wires those are I pulled the plastic off but there's about 10 wires going towards the direction of the reverse lights

It sounds like you're trying to make the connection at the BCM or fuse box. Don't make it there, make it at the harness that ties into the backup lights.

The camera mounts at the back of the car above the license plate, correct? The usual way of mounting it is to run the wires through the rubber grommet behind the license plate. From there it's a short jump to the wiring for the backup lights.

I looked at the wiring diagram for a 2007 and yes, it indicates that Orange wire up to a point then Light Green back to the lights. Looking at the diagram it's not obvious where that break from OR to LG occurs.

Here's a pic of what I'm working with. I have the wires ran through the black grommet from the license plate lights. There is a light green wire but I thought that's the wire where i connect the reversal signal from the head unit.

Yes, there should be a light green wire there you can tap into.

If that's the light green wire I tap into for the power source, then where is the wire I use for the reverse signal. From this DIY it looks like he uses that light green wire for the reverse signal on the head unit. Sorry for all the questions I just don't want to be tapping into the wrong wires. https://my350z.com/forum/audio-video...install-4.html

You use it for both. When you put the car in reverse, the backup lights go hot and that provides 1) power for the camera 2) signal to the HU that you're in reverse so it will switch to the backup camera input signal.

I just installed a pioneer backup camera. I tapped into that light green wire with the gray spots (It is very visible in your pictures). That wire went to the reverse signal wire on the back of the head unit. I then tapped into the cigarette lighter plug behind the seats for accesrory wire for the power. I then grounded the black wire to the chassis.
My headunit has the option to switch to backup camera even if the car is not in reverse so that is how you achieve that. If you tap both the reverse signal and the power from that light green wire, the camera can only operate when car is in reverse (which is the main goal of the system anyway) I still have tons of pics of my complete audio install still in my camera. If you are having problems let me know so I upload some for you

You have to watch putting too much power drain on an existing circuit/fuse. I would think something like a fuel pump would need it's own power and fuse for safety.
