Default New Audio Set Up

So I am a new 350Z owner and am loving it so far. Unfortunately I was not able to find one in the year, color, and model I wanted with a premium Bose sound system.

The stock system had clarion speakers that would not be too bad if they where not blown in the front.. So I went to the local audio store yesterday and picked up a pair of Polk Audio DXI 6500's, ripped apart the doors, drilled 1.75" tweeter ports, mounted the crossovers, etc, and got them installed. I really like how the new tweeters look and also like the new overall sound.

I have not installed a new deck, amp's, rear speakers or sub's just yet but do have most of the equipment ordered and plan to make it next weekends project. The AMP I decided to get for the 2 speakers just installed was a Polk Audio D2000.2. If the quality is good I will probably mirror the speakers and amp for the rear set.

The issue I am having now is that when I turn the volume up it gets a little distorted. Not bad but almost a slight choppy/scratchy/rattly noise. Does anyone know if the amp should fix this this as the speakers take 125W RMS and I am sure the stock deck puts out less then 20W RMS? Or do you think they are poor quality speakers?

Another note is that it is worse with the Bass turned up.. I am sure it will get better once I install sub's and can turn the Bass level down for those speakers but want to make sure they are alright.

Try turning the Bass level (along with all other equalizer settings) down to 0, and see if the problem persists. If it does not, then you are likely sending a clipped signal to the speakers from the head unit with the levels raised. If the distortion is still present with all settings flat, you may have a wiring issue or are simply turning the head-unit up past the point where it clips.

I will say wait till you get your amp, install and adjust the gain correctly then go from there.

Stock head unit was designed to run with the stock speakers which are probably more efficient. Wait for the amp and level match like the previous poster wrote.

Any pics?

As for your issues... like the others said: you need an amp. I've run Polk MM mid/tweets before with about 60 watts a channel and they sounded GREAT! With a crossover to protect the mids from trying to reproduce bass (below 80Hz) they will not distort as described.
